Fans of the Assassin's Creed series have been wondering for years when Ubisoft would finally bring back some of the series' early games. At last, it looks like the wait might be over. Ubisoft is planning a long-term remake approach for the series, with the first projects set to release in 2026.
Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag is reportedly the one that’s closest to seeing the light of day. While Ubisoft has yet to officially announce the project, those familiar with the company’s plans have said that the popular pirate adventure is definitely in the works. With its combination of naval battle, open-world exploration and the story of Edward Kenway, Black Flag remains one of the hit games in the series.

More importantly, it’s a part of Assassin’s Creed that many fans still consider to be one of the best in the series. It's likely that the remake will be more than just a cosmetic fix. Sources say Ubisoft wants to rebuild the game from the ground up, updating systems and adding to parts of the original experience instead of just copying them scene for scene.
If those rumors are true, players might see updated game features, better world design, and other changes that bring the 2013 classic up to date with what people expect today.
But Black Flag might not be the only thing Ubisoft has planned. Other reports outlining the company’s plans for future Assassin’s Creed games also mention that another remake project, currently known as “Stardust,” is also being worked on. Ubisoft hasn't said for sure what game the project is based on, but a lot of people think it's a remake of the first Assassin's Creed.
It's not really a surprise. The 2007 game presented Altair Ibn-La'Ahad to gamers and set the stage for one of the biggest gaming franchises ever. The game is very important, but it has never been fully remade or remastered. Because of this, it’s still one of the projects that longtime fans want the most.
The remake could start production once the Black Flag project is released. If things go as planned, Ubisoft could get a chance to bring back some of the most out-of-date aspects of the original game. The first Assassin’s Creed was praised for its mood and story but also criticized for boring missions and a lack of variety in how to play.
A modern remake would let the creator keep what made the original game great and add new features that are now not needed.
There are also rumors of a third remake project that will happen at some point in the future. Not much is known about it yet, and no specific game has been linked to it. Sources say that Ubisoft hasn't decided which game will be remade next. The company's decision will probably rest on how players react to the first batch of projects.

A lot of people already know what they think will happen. Many believe the most likely candidate is Assassin’s Creed II, given how popular it is and the opportunity to play through Ezio Auditore’s trilogy once again. However, it seems Ubisoft wants to get the first remakes right before deciding what to do for the future.
It’s interesting these stories emerged at this time. Recent Assassin's Creed games have shown a growing desire to go back to the series' roots, putting more stress on story-driven experiences and stealth-based gameplay. In that bigger picture, it would make sense to remake the franchise's first experiences and watch them again.
Ubisoft hasn't said anything about the suspected projects yet. Even so, Assassin's Creed fans might have a nostalgic time over the next few years if the plan that was leaked is true. One question remains: which old Assassin's Creed adventure should be the next one to get a modern remake? Black Flag seems ready to set sail again, and Altair could be waiting in the wings.
