Assassin’s Creed Back to Where It All Began—Black Flag Resynced Leads the Charge

Fans of the Assassin's Creed series have been wondering for years when Ubisoft would finally bring back some of the series' early games. At last, it looks like the wait might be over. Ubisoft is planning a long-term remake approach for the series, with the first projects set to release in 2026.

Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag is reportedly the one that’s closest to seeing the light of day. While Ubisoft has yet to officially announce the project, those familiar with the company’s plans have said that the popular pirate adventure is definitely in the works. With its combination of naval battle, open-world exploration and the story of Edward Kenway, Black Flag remains one of the hit games in the series.

More importantly, it’s a part of Assassin’s Creed that many fans still consider to be one of the best in the series. It's likely that the remake will be more than just a cosmetic fix. Sources say Ubisoft wants to rebuild the game from the ground up, updating systems and adding to parts of the original experience instead of just copying them scene for scene.

If those rumors are true, players might see updated game features, better world design, and other changes that bring the 2013 classic up to date with what people expect today.

But Black Flag might not be the only thing Ubisoft has planned. Other reports outlining the company’s plans for future Assassin’s Creed games also mention that another remake project, currently known as “Stardust,” is also being worked on. Ubisoft hasn't said for sure what game the project is based on, but a lot of people think it's a remake of the first Assassin's Creed.

It's not really a surprise. The 2007 game presented Altair Ibn-La'Ahad to gamers and set the stage for one of the biggest gaming franchises ever. The game is very important, but it has never been fully remade or remastered. Because of this, it’s still one of the projects that longtime fans want the most.

The remake could start production once the Black Flag project is released. If things go as planned, Ubisoft could get a chance to bring back some of the most out-of-date aspects of the original game.
