A new wave of speculation is stirring in the Resident Evil community, and it points to a return of two long-requested classics. Reportedly, the full-scale remakes of Resident Evil, Resident Evil Zero, and Code: Veronica are currently in development, with targeted release windows set for 2027 and 2028, respectively.

The news is even more interesting because it doesn't say what order they will arrive in. The report says that the Code: Veronica project is being worked on by the same groups that made the remakes of Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 4.

Also at the same time, the people who worked on the remake of Resident Evil 3 are said to be working on Resident Evil Zero. The players are spread out in a way that shows a high level of production value and a desire to make each title feel real.

This possible release date would be very close to Capcom's usual release schedule. Resident Evil 7 came out in 2017, Resident Evil 2 will be remade in 2019, Resident Evil 3 was remade in 2020, Resident Evil Village came out in 2021, and then Resident Evil 4 was remade in 2023.

If Resident Evil 9 indeed arrives in 2026 as many predict, then Code: Veronica in 2027 and Resident Evil Zero in 2028 would restore the series to its familiar two-year pulse of major releases. The rumored schedule also prompts broader speculation about the future of the remake initiative. A Code: Veronica remake would finally bring one of the most requested gaps in the reimagined timeline into modern form.

Capcom could improve the story and gameplay features of Resident Evil Zero by going back and playing it again. This would make the experience smoother without losing the tension and atmosphere that made the original so special. If this pattern holds, some fans believe it could set the stage for a potential Resident Evil 1 remake by 2029: creating a three-year stretch of back-to-back revitalized classics.

Beyond that, the conversation inevitably turns toward the more polarizing entries in the series. Titles like Resident Evil 5 (2009) and Resident Evil 6 (2012) would, by the early 2030s, be more than two decades old. An anniversary like this might be the right chance for Capcom to go back and make them better. For Resident Evil 5, a remake could make the shared gameplay better while also fixing problems with the game's tone and story flow.

It's even clearer that Resident Evil 6 needs a major overhaul. With many large missions, changes in tone, and uneven storylines, a modernized version could take the best parts and make them more focused and cinematic. The extras could be cut down, campaigns could be streamlined, and the main characters, like Leon Kennedy, could be given more time to shine without weakening the story's effect.

While none of this has been officially confirmed, the pattern of past releases, the credibility of the source, and the level of fan demand make this rumor difficult to dismiss outright. If the rumors are true, the next ten years could bring a carefully chosen mix of new games and remade old favorites. This would solidify Resident Evil's place as one of the longest-running and most-evolving series in video games.

As of right now, the only certain thing is that excitement is growing. If Capcom's vision aligns with these whispers, the series' future could be as thrilling and unpredictable as the nightmares it continues to conjure.
