Sony just announced something pretty exciting called The Playerbase, a program designed to bring PlayStation’s most devoted fans closer to the games they love. Over the past 30 years, PlayStation has looked for ways to celebrate its gaming community, which has played a huge role in shaping the brand’s history and future. Now, with the Player Base, fans get a chance to step directly into some of PlayStation’s biggest game worlds by having their likeness scanned and added into a game.

The initiative kicks off with Gran Turismo 7 and will eventually expand to include other PlayStation Studios titles. The community program is set to be available in select markets across the Americas, Europe, Asia, South Africa, and Australia. Fans interested in participating can find all the details and submit their applications through the PlayStation blog.

To take part, players need to answer a few questions about their PlayStation experiences, sign in with their PlayStation account ID, and provide some additional information.

From there, Sony will review applications and select a limited number of finalists for video interviews to learn more about them and their connection to PlayStation. One fan will then be chosen to be featured in Gran Turismo 7 as part of The Playerbase. Their in-game appearance will be a limited-time character portrait, designed to fit naturally within the game’s world.

The chosen fan will also get to help design a custom fantasy logo and a unique vehicle livery that will be permanently added to the showcase menu. As part of the process, they’ll visit a visual arts studio in Los Angeles for a scanning session and collaborate with a designer to finalize their fantasy logo and vehicle design.

Sony shared that over time, they plan to expand the Player Base to include more PlayStation Studios titles, giving fans the chance to appear in ways that suit each game’s style and universe.

It’s a step that nods back to ideas like PlayStation Home, letting fans become a part of the gaming worlds they love, though this time in a more direct and personal way. For fans looking to experience this firsthand, The Playerbase opens a unique window to see yourself in PlayStation games, starting with Gran Turismo 7, and gives a glimpse of how future titles could integrate their most dedicated players into the game worlds themselves.
