Assassin's Creed Odyssey Guide | Best Engravings for Beginners
Here's how you can maximize damage with the Right Engravings
Game Guide by Subaiyta Jahan on Sep 18, 2025
Damage can be significantly increased by choosing the right engravings. Certain engravings, which may appear powerful in the beginning, might become weaker than others if weapon damage and multipliers are factored in.
Here's a ranking of 15 engravings that will help you.

+10% All Damage
This engraving impacts only the three base damage types (Hunter, Warrior, and Assassin). It does not increase poison damage, fire damage, critical damage, or headshot damage.
Since it simply adds damage to what already exists, its total impact is small. For instance, adding +10% to 400 Warrior damage is only about a 2.5% boost.
+40% Fire Damage/+40% Poison Damage
These engravings are not multiplied by weapon damage, despite the large percentage, which makes them weaker than base damage bonuses at higher levels.
Warrior damage becomes equal to 40% fire or poison damage until weapon damage reaches 100%. Warrior damage quickly surpasses as the multiplier increases.
+50% Headshot Damage
Headshot damage multiplies base damage like critical damage, although it only applies to arrows and only when headshots are landed.
Unlike critical damage, which is effective against all attack types, this is less adaptable, but it can be strong for a Hunter build.
+50% Critical Damage
This engraving performs better than the headshot damage since it applies to every attack. Critical damage is a multiplier that works with Warrior, Hunter, and Assassin builds.
However, it is still weaker than weapon-specific damage bonuses like +20% Sword Damage because weapon damage multipliers stack on top of critical damage for greater results.
+20% Warrior, Hunter, or Assassin Damage
This engraving gives a straight boost to one of the three main damage types. In general, it is more effective than +10% all damage is stronger than fire or poison damage.
Focusing on the preferred playstyle (Warrior, Hunter, or Assassin) makes this engraving a solid early pick.

+100% Headshot Damage with +50% Adrenaline Consumption
This engraving is a stronger version of the 50% headshot bonus. It can be added to armor pieces without overlapping critical damage bonuses and is very helpful for strong hunter builds.
It can be unlocked on Corfu Island by solving the Captain and Cyclops Ostraka riddle in Aelos Village.
+100% Critical Damage at Full Health
As long as health is full, which is easy to maintain through healing abilities, the bonus will apply with every hit.
Staying at 25% health with the Xiphos of Dionysos engraving still counts as full health, and allowing this to remain active for long periods.
+200% Headshot Damage (Second Sight Bow)
One of the greatest ranged-focus builds can be unlocked from the Pirate Warehouse on Corfu Island.
It sacrifices some Warrior and Assassin damage; however, it is extremely powerful when headshots are consistently landed.
+200% Critical Damage (Typhon's Axe)
This engraving is extremely strong because it can work for every attack type. However, it requires activating the Flaming Attacks ability and is locked to axes, and this slightly limits its flexibility.
Armor Penetration
Armor penetration significantly increases damage by lowering enemy defenses, acting as a reverse multiplier. It is especially powerful with fast-hitting weapons like daggers and bows.
After completing the full Odysseus questline, this engraving is unlocked through the Atlantean Blade.
Xiphos of Dionysos Engraving (+100% Base Damage)
This engraving provides a massive damage boost to Hunter, Warrior, and Assassin damage types at the cost of reduced health.
However, the health penalty is negligible due to healing skills, making this one of the best engravings in the game.
Champion's Engraving (Corfu Engraving)
The strongest engraving in this game grants +200% damage but reduces resistances by 100%. When paired with damage conversion, it provides a +300% damage boost for Warrior and Assassin damage.
This engraving is unlocked by solving the Koliadi Farm Ostraka riddle on Corfu Island.
