Sony came out strong with the PlayStation 4; reaching 50 million sales worldwide, releasing an affordable VR headset, and finally delivering some of the best triple-a games of 2016. Here are our favorite PlayStation 4 games this year.
After nearly 10 years in development, The Last Guardian was finally released this year. Venturing through a seemingly deserted valley a small boy must depend on a massive bird/dog/cat creature called Trico to survive the labyrinth ahead. As the adventure progresses the bond between these two will grow stronger, putting each other’s lives in the others hand. Relaying on an AI character may be frustrating at times but regardless The Last Guardian is a moving tale.
While its launch was rocky Street Fighter V has become a solid fighter in the months after. With content updates, new character costumes, and modes turning this once hounded fighter into an acclaimed competitive title.
Rise of the Tomb Raider was already an incredible game but the 20th Anniversary Edition of the game made it better. With new chapters, an exclusive PSVR mode, and the same great single-player campaign this was one title that you cannot miss. If you managed to invest into a PlayStation 4 Pro this already stellar action-adventure title is amplified with improved resolution.
Rebooting the entire franchise Insomniac starts off Ratchet and Clank off with a strong head-start. Recreating the worlds of the first game with breathtaking modern visuals, introducing new environments, and refining the experience enough that it feels new and nostalgic for longtime fans was a difficult feat that the developers at Insomniac successfully accomplished. Ratchet and Clank capture the essence of what an excellent action-adventure game should contain.
Not only one of the best reasons to own a PLayStation 4 but one of the best games of the year Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End is another diamond crafted by the talented developers at Naughty Dog. The final portion of Nathan Drake’s epic tale has him diving headfirst into the treasure hunter’s life to save his brother and uncover one last historical mystery. One top of its jaw-dropping single-player campaign the deep competitive multiplayer will have you playing for months. If Naughty Dog keeps up this level of passion for their projects we might as well give them the Game of the Year nomination for every game they develop. I cannot wait to see them top this game!
