The Ancient Greatsword is a hidden weapon in Red Ashe’s Swamp and is one of the easiest swords to miss if you remain on the main progression route. It rewards defensive play because successfully deflecting an attack causes your following attack to deal critical damage.

Follow the Stream Through Red Ashe’s Swamp

Enter Red Ashe’s Swamp and progress through the swamp until you can follow the stream. Keep the stream on your right as you move through this section.

Continue until you reach the area where dinosaurs are fighting. Instead of simply following the obvious progression path, move toward the fighting dinosaurs on your right and look for a route running into the trees.

Follow the Hidden Path Through the Trees

Take the path through the trees and continue deeper into the hidden section. The Ancient Greatsword is not sitting openly on the ground. You are looking for the breakable rock that contains the weapon.

Another complete-game route also places this hidden swamp sword away from the main progression line, confirming that you need to deliberately explore the trees rather than follow the boss route.

Break the Rock to Get the Ancient Greatsword

Smash the weapon rock and collect the Ancient Greatsword. Its defining effect activates through Deflect: after you successfully Deflect, your next attack deals critical damage.

That makes the sword particularly useful when you are comfortable reading enemy attacks and consistently landing Deflects rather than relying exclusively on dodging.

Keep the stream on your right in Red Ashe’s Swamp, take the path toward the fighting dinosaurs, follow it through the trees, and break the hidden weapon rock to get the Ancient Greatsword.
