Gatekeeper Guide | How to Unlock Mediator and Master Abilities

Mediator specializes in curse-based combat mechanics and delayed damage effects in Gatekeeper. This character operates through marking enemies, spreading damage, and manipulating soul energy.

Mediator's playstyle requires patience and positioning, as most abilities involve timing delays and setup phases that reward strategic thinking over reflexes.

Mediator's Unlock Requirement

Pass a total of 60 locations (this is cumulative across multiple runs).

Mediator Abilities

Mediator represents the curse-themed character with a gameplay style that feels awkward. All attacks have delays, and the first ability has a double delay where you wait to fire the projectile (requiring mouse clicks rather than smooth button holding) and then wait for projectiles to explode.

Cranium Scatter throws a projectile that deals damage and creates smaller projectiles. These can overlap on a single target.

Pain Conduit marks an enemy and spreads damage to all things within a circle when you damage the marked target. The problem occurs when other enemies block your shot, preventing you from dealing extra damage.

Ghost Walk provides complete invulnerability for 6 seconds - enemies ignore you, but doing anything except repositioning drops you out early. This works well when used tactically rather than letting the entire duration tick down, such as phasing through boss abilities.

Harvest pulls souls from enemies toward your location. You have to activate this then awkwardly kite back to get as many souls as possible to overlap with multiple enemies. This works when there's a boss with ads crowded around it but feels awkward otherwise.

Mediator's passive is Purification - certain properties of cursed artifacts become more advantageous. You need to get cursed artifacts for this, which is a significant requirement. You'll get a few every run, but unless you're going very long or you're exceptionally lucky, this doesn't have much impact.
