Clearing the Open Ground

The zone around the forge holds a heavy concentration of zombies, so take your time working through them rather than rushing in. The spear works well here if you're more comfortable with it, though once you're fighting in tighter indoor spaces, switching to the sword becomes more effective for close-quarters combat.

Fighting Your Way Inside

Jump the fence near the forge and clear out zombies in the open area first. Fighting them here, where you have room to maneuver, is much safer than getting boxed in once you move indoors. Equip your sword once you're ready to head inside, and rely on the leg-breaking technique again to manage groups of enemies without getting overwhelmed. Keep sharpening your weapon as needed throughout, and check your bandage periodically if you're carrying an injury.

Claiming the Armor

Once the forge area is fully clear, you'll find the full set of steel armor waiting in the corner. This is a substantial reward for the fighting it takes to get there, and it puts you in a strong position for the rest of the early game. A future update is expected to add character classes and a strength stat, which should make wearing heavy armor like this less punishing on your carry weight. For now, just know that putting on the full set will slow you down considerably. There's also a nudity toggle in the settings, worth knowing about if it's relevant to you.

When to Actually Wear It

Once you're back home, you don't need to wear the full set at all times. Save it for situations where you're expecting serious zombie encounters. For general exploring in open areas, the leather apron alone is usually enough, and you can layer the helmet and steel leg armor on top of that if you want extra protection without committing to the full weight. Keep the breastplate in storage unless things are about to get intense, since the helmet and leather gear alone should cover most day-to-day situations you'll run into.
