The pantry is a small detour early in God Save Birmingham, but it has one of the better pieces of starting gear and a good supply of food. This is a guide to help you clear it and what to pick up inside.

The Room Before the Pantry
You will have to go through a building with only a few zombies, and a water pitcher to drink from, before you get to the pantry itself. Do that, it will help you stay hydrated. There is one of the zombies in this room that is harmless and can be left alone. There is also an Ornamental Key here, but its lock has not yet been identified.
Fighting Your Way to the Pantry
Stepping outside, you'll run into a group of zombies. Crouch to not attract all of them at once, and move towards the building across the way, the pantry. Rotate zombies as you get closer to them to take head shots if possible. Right-click is a broad swipe and left-click is a swing overhead. Walk carefully, as these zombies can still see you, but have a limited range, and take your time on stamina as you battle through them.

Food, Freshness, and the Leather Apron
When you get to the pantry, shut the door immediately. You'll find a lot of food scattered across the floor. Feed as much as you require, but always first check the freshness, and always go for the bread, cheese wedges and the Leather Apron that is nearby. Once you locate the apron, outfit it and don't take it apart. It's not just about getting small animal hide spool and leather straps, it's also about getting cloth scraps and leather straps, and the apron seems to be aiding in cold resistance, so it's worth keeping for the early game.
Eating and Washing Up
Continue to eat while you are inside. Hunger is a range from 100 to -100, with well fed being at the top end, and getting to that end of the range will give you a useful buff. Once you've eaten your fill, you can also wash up here to clear off any dirtiness before continuing on.
