One of the most crucial early builds in God Save Birmingham is a working well, as it provides a dependable water source near your base location. This guide is for you to know what you need and how to get it running.

Making Your Way There

As you approach the well, keep looking for anything useful, such as more rope, in side rooms. It's better to disassemble things as you go through rather than rush through them all, as this will add to your crafting experience. Loot may be found on rooftops in this area, but early on it is better to stick to ground level buildings.

Preparing Before You Arrive

Before you venture further out towards the well itself, ensure that your character stats are in good condition. Don't rush in, as being overwhelmed by too many zombies at once is the quickest way to get into trouble. If you are dirty, wash off in the river before proceeding, especially if you have not yet started the well. Zombies in this section have a relatively small aggro range, which means that you can pass through groups without having to fight all the zombies.

Repairing the Well

When you arrive at the well, you will need two metal hooks and one well bucket to repair the well. This is your initial water source, and there are additional wells in other areas of the map later. Lower the bucket and then lift it up. Use it to drink and pour some of the water into your water pitcher, as you will need it later for cooking pottage. Water does weigh something, so if you're already at your limit, remember to bring water.

Nearby Storage Crates

Wooden storage crates are also available nearby. They usually contain a fire striker and flint for fire-starting, coats, metal hooks, wet stones, hand knives, and food. If you're just trying to get the well running, you can ignore these for now and deal with any nearby zombies before you get to the well.
