Meeting the Essential Requirements

To make the Fishing Rod available for purchase, you must meet three requirements. Before you can try to flee, you have to get to the Temple of Styx at least once.

You can get to this place after beating the third boss, and it's the last one before you face the last boss in Hades.

Next, you need to buy the Tartarus Fountain Chamber from the House Contractor. You can get this item for free, which makes it an easy requirement to meet early in the game.

Third, you need to buy the House Contractor's Banned List of Minor Prophecies. You'll need 20 Gemstones to make this buy, so make sure you've saved up enough money from your runs in Hades.
