Hollow Knight: Silksong has countless bosses and minibosses, many of them remembered for their difficulty, some for their visual awe, and some for their quirkiness. One of these bosses is the Disgraced Chef Lugoli.

In this guide, I will help you beat Disgraced Chef Lugoli.

About the Fight

If you've made it to the Disgraced Chef Lugoli in Hollow Knight: Silksong, you've probably already realized that this fight is less about aggression and more about patience and observation.

Lugoli is a bizarre, tragic figure—once a respected chef, now transformed into a grotesque parody of his former self, flinging corrupted maggots and attacking with wild culinary fury.

The fight is half-disorganized and half-timed, and you have to deal with his madman kitchen-based brutality. Yet, with some persistence and the proper strategy, this fight is fairly manageable.

The moveset he uses during the fight

Lugoli has four basic attacks in his first phase, and each is really telegraphed once you know what to look for. The first is his butt bounce attack — he'll stop for a moment, shimmy a little bit, and then bound over to you.

This is a good distance to travel, and while it looks silly, it can cause a whole lot of damage if you're underneath him. Be careful of how fast he shakes before jumping — it's your cue to move out of his path.

The second large attack is raining maggots. Lugoli will scoop up a ladle full of them, then toss them up so they can rain down along the battlefield. The maggots will hit you several times if you're standing still, so you'll have to be mobile.

The secret here is to not panic — the majority of the maggots plunge down in regular curves, so a gentle left or right movement will serve to exclude you from harm altogether.

And finally, of course, there's the slam attack. When Lugoli lifts his ladle directly above his head, that's your signal. He'll slam it down in front of him, generating a little shockwave and spewing out a pair of maggots. The positive is that this attack is easy to dodge if you catch the tell. Simply dash or back up the instant he picks up the ladle.

Finally, in the first phase, he will jump very high every so often and then descend, crashing from above, spewing out four maggots on the way down. The pattern of where they land is consistent, so after you've seen it a couple of times, you can count on recognizing the danger zones.

The attack gives you a brief window to move or mend if you feel you're safe at your distance, but it's also a reminder not to be directly under him.

The second part of the fight begins after Lugoli takes about half of his health. He will start inserting an additional ground-burst attack into his rotation — when he stomps on the ground, two maggots will burst from under you, and then four again after a short while.

It's a perceptible increase, but it isn't over-punishing, provided that you're maintaining movement. Wait for the first set to pop up, move between the gaps, and avoid standing still for too long.

This is a battle where defensive play pays off. Lugoli's moves chain together quickly, and it's easy to get greedy trying to sneak in one last hit only to eat a full combo in return. The fight rewards patience — striking only when you've clearly seen an opening.

Focus on parrying, paying attention to his animations, and letting his patterns play out. There's a rhythm to his attacks when you catch up with him, and that's when the fight starts to become balanced.

If you're finding it hard to survive the pandemonium, consider donning the Wreath of Purity. This charm (or crest, depending on the translation) provides some additional forgiveness on the maggot projectiles, so you can take up to three hits from them before they chip into your defence.

It doesn't make you outright invincible, but it mitigates the frustration of random chip damage significantly when the maggots overwhelm the arena.

Positioning is the other important strategy. Stay by the opposite corners of the map as much as possible. Lugoli's most dangerous attacks — his ground bursts and slam — become easier to spot and avoid when you're far from him. It also gives you room to kite him left and right, which helps you dictate the flow of the fight.

If you can make him bounce his butt one way and dash under him the other way, you will have your arena swept clean of trash and maggot nests, and you will be able to fight more easily.

You'll want to keep an eye on how Lugoli ties his attacks together. Often, after he's done his slam or maggot toss, he'll immediately try a butt bounce. This can catch you off guard if you try to counterpunch too quickly.

Instead of rushing in and punching after every move, hold up for a half-second longer and observe what he's doing next. It's that extra patience that keeps you alive.

There are moments when it will seem like you are playing a bullet-hell game — maggots flying, bouncing, and exploding everywhere as Lugoli hurtles around the stage.

Don't forget, though: each movement has its own visual cue, and none of them are random. Once you're in his rhythm, though, the insanity is something you can dance away.

A good heal trick is to seize the brief downtime after his ground-burst attack. As soon as the second wave of maggots is done, there's a short window before he begins his next attack.

That's your most viable chance to heal some silk. Do not try to heal after his slam or bounce attack because he recovers from those too quickly.

If you can stay relaxed and play reactively, Lugoli will be done for. The final minute of the fight does have the potential to get out of hand, especially when he mixes the aerial slams with the ground bursts, but the key is the same — stay patient, move slowly, and never overcommit.

As you finally deal the final blows, Lugoli collapses in a heap of his own ruined banquet, maggots fluttering as quiet falls over the kitchen battlefield.

It's a grim but satisfying victory, and one which perfectly captures Silksong's blend of clever fighty and disturbing world-making.

The Disgraced Chef Lugoli isn't the hardest boss in Silksong, but he teaches an important lesson: don't rush the dance. Watch the movements, trust the tells, and play smart. Do that, and you'll find that even the wildest kitchen nightmare can be tamed.
