In Hollow Knight: Silksong, there are many different types of movement abilities, allowing you to move around freely and discover new locations. One of these is the Drifter's Cloak.
In this guide, I will help you find the Drifter's Cloak in Hollow Knight: Silksong.
Details About the Drifter's Cloak Quest
The Drifter's Cloak is one of the most important upgrades Hornet can obtain, allowing her to glide through the air and ride powerful updrafts to reach new areas. Without having it, you cannot fully explore the area of Far Fields or progress into later regions such as Greymoor without this Cloak, so unlocking it is a major step in your journey.

You will need to complete the Flexile Spines quest to get this Cloak, which is given by the Seamstress NPC in Far Fields. This quest requires you to collect twenty-five Spine Cores from a particular enemy known as Hokers. The whole thing seems a bit tricky, but if you know the route and the respawn trick, it becomes much easier.
The quest can be found once you enter the Far Fields after passing through the Deep Docks. This region is filled with gusts of air shooting out from the ground, which hints at a different traversal mechanic that you, as the player, might not know.
As you traverse, you will have to make your way to the center of this area, where you will find a small, floating balloon-like structure that belongs to the Seamstress. You have to enter and speak with her, and after a short conversation, she will comment on your Cloak and explain that she can alter your Cloak if you bring her twenty-five Spine Cores.
She warns that these spines can only be obtained from Hokers, which are strange, bulbous creatures found in nearby sections to the right of this section. The Seamstress's request is easy yet tricky to complete.
You have to head towards the right from the Seamstress's hut, into a section of rooms filled with Hokers. These floating enemies launch sharp spines in multiple directions, and those spines are the key to your quest.
You cannot simply defeat the Hokers and expect the Spines to drop; instead, you have to strike the Spines after they are fired and have embedded themselves in walls or floors. Each broken spine may give you a Spine Core.
Hokers also often release a final burst of spines when they die, which can also be broken for extra drops. This means it is often best that you let them fire a few rounds before killing them and then focus on collecting as many lodged spines as possible.
Collecting twenty-five spines at once may take you a while, but there is a simpler way for you to speed things up. After you clear out a room of Hoker, you can backtrack through a doorway, then immediately re-enter the chamber.

Doing this will cause the Hokers to respawn, allowing you to repeat the process without needing to wander far. This cycle can be repeated as many times as you need until you have the full set of twenty-five Spine Cores. For this quest, you will have to be patient, being wary of the spines shot out so as not to get hit and of where the lodged spines land.
Once you have gathered all twenty-five, return to the Seamstress in her floating workshop. Hand over the spines to her, and after a short cutscene, she will craft the Drifter's Cloak for you. This new Cloak automatically replaces your old one and permanently grants you the ability to glide.
To activate it, you have to hold the jump button in midair. This causes Hornet to slow her descent, allowing her to cross wider gaps and making platforming sections much easier to navigate. More importantly, she can now ride the powerful wind currents that flow through the Far Fields, ascending shafts and reaching areas that were previously inaccessible.
What You Can Do with the Cloak
With the Drifter's Cloak equipped, you can immediately begin exploring new parts of the Far Fields. Just outside the Seamstress's hut, you'll notice gust corridors blocked by clusters of orange magma. These magmas restrict airflow, so you will need to break them to restore the currents.
Once cleared, you can step into the updrafts, spread your Cloak, and ride the wind upward. Using this mechanic, you can discover hidden chambers, including one that contains a valuable Mask Shard. From here, you can continue west into a fiery lava region where gliding is essential for safely crossing deadly pools and avoiding enemy attacks.
Making your way to the left, you will be faced with the boss, Fourth Chorus, and you will need to fight him to progress forward. In the fight, the Cloak comes in handy, showcasing its range of abilities before you go out to explore the rest of the world.

In other fights, you can use the Cloak to heal, as you can glide and bind your health. The Cloak also allows you to dodge attacks that take place solely on the ground, and especially longer attacks that you can't avoid just by dashing or double jumping. The Cloak also comes in handy in arena battles.
After the battle, return to the vertical shaft near the center of the Far Fields. Now that you possess the Drifter's Cloak, you can chain updrafts together to ascend the shaft. Be sure to break any orange growth rocks along the way to strengthen the airflow, as blocked vents will stop you from reaching higher levels.
With careful timing and controlled glides, Hornet can ride the currents all the way to the top. Doing so unlocks the path to Greymoor, marking your escape from the Far Fields and opening up entirely new regions of Pharloom to explore.
The Drifter's Cloak is more than just a progression tool; it adds a new layer to Hornet's movement set. Gliding allows you to approach combat encounters more flexibly, float past traps that might otherwise force precise jumps, and even uncover secrets hidden in seemingly unreachable corners of the map.

And because of how vital it is, the Seamstress's quest is not optional if you want to continue the story. Whenever you reach the Far Fields, make the Cloak your first priority, as nothing else in the region can be fully completed until you have it.
