Phenoros is one of the trickier boss fights in Metroid Prime 4: Beyond. It's a multi-phase boss that tests your ability to read patterns, your agile movement, and your aim.

The phases will change how you use various mechanics, so it's important that you understand and get the hang of each of the phases to beat the boss. This guide will explain how.

The first phase of the battle has Phenoros swimming on the lava, and you are required to chase him. Your primary objective at this stage will be to shoot at the blue nodes on his belly.

There are moments for when he slows down, and that's when you'll want to capitalize on attacking him.

Once the Blue nodes are destroyed, the real fight starts. You'll be standing in a part of Phenoros's body, and you'll need to aim at the blue nodes around his head.

Shoot them down one by one until his mouth opens. When Phenoros's mouth opens, fire is directly inside his mouth to deal damage. Shooting at the mouth deals the only meaningful damage in the entire fight.

Try locking in during windows where you'll be able to shoot inside of his mouth, but avoid locking in whenever shooting at the nodes, as you're more likely to miss.

As easy as it sounds, Phenoros typically won't let you do damage to him that easily. Phenoros regularly does a beam charge attack, which does, and if Phenoros lunges at you head-first, the best way to counter it is by double-tapping B to dodge sideways.

Oftentimes, Phenoros will also release charge orbs during a certain attack pattern. These can be shot at, and if they're destroyed close enough to you, you'll often get health drops.

Whenever you're low on health, you'll want to utilize the charged orbs and make sure that you only shoot at them once they get close to you.

After progressing to the next phase, there are going to be more blue nodes around Phenoros's face, especially around its ears. You want to repeat the same process by destroying the blue nodes and waiting for the mouth to open to fire and set again.

After dealing significant damage, Phenoros will eventually become stunned in the final phase with his mouth open. It's during this stage that you'll want to switch to your psychic mode and launch a beam directly into its mouth.

You'll want to take your time and be careful to guide the beam through the entire mouth cavity without colliding with the wall or other obstacles inside the mouth. Inside Phenoros, there will be a core that you have to target to finish the entire fight sequence.

Pheneros will then be defeated, and there will be a brief cutscene. The key to this fight is to prioritize attacking the blue nodes, being patient, and having the awareness to dodge whenever necessary.

Defeating Phenoros will allow you to progress and reward you with awards that are tied to this boss encounter.
