The Great Sword is a sharp weapon that relies on charging to deal damage. You can reach three different charge levels as you fight in Monster Hunter Stories 3: Twisted Reflection.
You gain these levels by winning a Head-To-Head. Every Great Sword also has skills that help you build your gauge. Some skills let you gain two charge levels if you skip your attack. Other skills let you gain one level while you still hit the enemy.

Spending Your Charge
Once you have a charge, you can use skills that consume the gauge. Higher levels mean you hit much harder. Some moves are locked until you reach a certain level. Rage Slash is a powerful skill that needs a full level three gauge. It deals a lot of damage to your target.

Trading Damage for Power
Using Rage Slash is a good way to turn a bad situation around. If an enemy attacks you while you are using this move, the damage you take makes your hit even stronger in Monster Hunter Stories 3: Twisted Reflection.
It is a great way to punish foes for hitting you. You should keep an eye on your gauge to make sure you can use these big moves when you need them.
