In Nioh 3, you need to learn how to handle incoming hits if you want to win. The Deflect skill is a great tool for this. You can find it in the Samurai part of your Martial Arts skill tree. It is one of the first things you should grab. This move helps you stay safe while also gaining an edge over your enemies.

How to Get and Use Deflect

Open your Martial Arts menu and go to the Samurai tree to unlock Deflect. To use it in a fight, press L1 just as an attack is about to land.

It works on almost everything except for a Burst Attack. When you pull it off, you get some of your Ki back. It also helps charge up your Ninjutsu and Art Gauges. A nice thing about this skill is that you don't have to stand still. You can keep walking while you use it in Nioh 3.

The game lets you know when your timing is perfect. You will see a quick flash of light that looks like bronze or gold. There is a specific sound that plays.

If you see that flash and hear the noise, you did it. This means you blocked the damage and boosted your meters. Just remember that this won't save you from a grab. If an enemy tries to snatch you, Deflect won't work.

You can use this against all sorts of monsters and people. When fighting a Yokai, deflecting their hits keeps you in the fight and might help you earn a Soul Core. It is also very useful against human guards. For example, if you head to the Castle, you can try it on the soldiers there.

A well-timed Deflect can make a human enemy stumble. When they are staggered like that, you can hit them back easily in Nioh 3.

Dealing with Burst Attacks

You have to pay attention to what kind of attack is coming your way. Deflect is for regular strikes. If you see a Burst Attack, don't try to use L1.

It will not work. For those big moves, you need to use your Burst Counter instead. Knowing when to use Deflect and when to use your counter will make you much harder to kill in Nioh 3.
