The many biomes and the difficulty settings are the two meanings of "level" in PEAK. The following guide will discuss the options for difficulty that determine how challenging your adventure will be.

Changing the Difficulty Level

Before starting a new run, head to the Gate Kiosk located in the airport hub. Interacting with it allows the team to select or adjust the game's difficulty.

The chosen level determines how much stamina, hunger, and environmental danger will affect the adventure.

All PEAK Difficulty Levels Explained

There are nine difficulty settings in total. Completing the game on Peak difficulty will unlock the Ascent modes. Each Ascent level needs to be cleared before the next one opens.

Tenderfoot

The easiest mode with slow stamina drain, ideal for beginners who want to learn the basics.

Peak

The standard mode is the game's main challenge. Beating this level unlocks the Ascent stages.

Ascent 1

Fall damage increases, making climbing riskier.

Ascent 2

At this level, Hunger and thirst will decrease faster, requiring better resource management.

Ascent 3

Items weigh more in this level, limiting how much can be carried.

Ascent 4

Players' beacons are disabled, making it harder for you to track teammates.

Ascent 5

There will be faster stamina loss in the dark as Nights grow colder.

Ascent 6

From here, climbing actions will now consume stamina, increasing physical strain.

Ascent 7

The hardest challenge is Permadeath. Once someone dies, the run will end permanently.

Every mode offers new survival challenges, ranging from Ascent 7's extreme danger to Tenderfoot's slow pace. These degrees of difficulty encourage players with steady advancement and PEAK skill across all levels.
