Pokémon Scarlet and Violet Guide | How to Get A Shiny Charizard
Hatch a Shiny Charmander with the best breeding odds, then evolve it into Charizard.
Game Guide by Jubair Baky on Feb 20, 2026
In Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, Charizard returned through Tera Raids, but the raid Charizard is shiny-locked. You can only catch one per save, and that makes the raid reward feel special.
If you want a shiny version, the only real path is breeding until you hatch a Shiny Charmander, then evolving it into Charizard. Let’s look at why breeding is your main option and how to make the most of it.
Understand Why Raid Charizard Can’t Be Shiny
If you catch an event Charizard in Tera Raids, it won't look as shiny. That means that you can't restart raids or hope for a shiny raid spawn. Take the raid as a way to get a strong Charizard (level 100, perfect IVs, and a tough fight). If you want a shiny, use that line to breed. This goes right into the process of breeding.

The Only Method That Works: Breed For Shiny Charmander
To get a shiny, you must breed Charizard to produce Charmander eggs and keep hatching until a shiny appears. Without any boosts, shiny odds are about 1 in 4096, which can take a very long time unless you get lucky early. To help with this, the following strategies can significantly improve your odds.

Boost Your Odds With Shiny Charm And Masuda Method
You can raise your shiny odds in two major ways. First, get the Shiny Charm. With the charm, your odds improve a lot while breeding. Next, use the Masuda Method, which means breeding with a Pokémon in a foreign language.
The simplest option is a foreign Ditto from another region or a foreign Charmander-line Pokémon. With the Masuda Method, the odds become much better, and combining the Masuda Method with the Shiny Charm gives you your best chance at around 1 in 512.
To set this up quickly, trade for a foreign Ditto through communities where players swap regional Pokémon. Another option is using a second copy of the game in a different language, so the Ditto (or partner Pokémon) counts as foreign.

Make The Shiny Competitive With Destiny Knot
If you also want strong stats, attach a Destiny Knot to your Charizard while breeding. This helps pass down more IVs, which increases the chance your hatched Shiny Charmander is battle-ready.

With enough luck and patience, you can even hatch a high-IV shiny that is ready to evolve and use competitively.
