A simple upgrade guide that helps you build strength early and avoid wasting money.

Scott Pilgrim EX gets easier once you figure out how to build things. It's not just about getting combos in the game. It also gives you points for making smart badge choices, using useful accessories, and steadily growing your stats.

If the early game is hard, it's usually not because of damage. Most of the time, it's because of a weak build, bad spending, or trying to support too many characters at once. It's always better to clean up one fighter's setup than to spread money around too soon.

Best Early Upgrade Focus

The easiest way to get there early is. Choose one main fighter and buy things for that person first. Early upgrades should help you get through normal fights more easily.

That means putting things that make your regular fights more stable at the top of your list instead of going after flashy bonuses that don't really help. If you're getting hurt too much in basic rooms, it's more important to stay alive and be consistent than to look good.

Best Route for Mid-Game Badges

At this point in the game, the build should start to feel like it was planned. You should now know which character you want to keep leveling up and which stats are most helpful for how you play. This is also when planning your badges becomes more useful than just going to the store.

If you don't have a lot of money, buy for momentum. The best upgrades are the ones that help you get through common fights faster, take fewer hits, and keep your run going smoothly from room to room.

Most Important Late-Game Upgrades

Upgrades in the late game should make the build stronger, not change it completely. At this point, you shouldn't try out everything. It's time to improve what already works. If your character is good at dealing with crowds, keep building on that strength.

If your survivability is still shaky, don't force damage; instead, focus on safer upgrades. When your build already knows what it wants to do, the last stretch is a lot easier.

The best rule for simple upgrades

The best rule is to buy things for a reason. Make one character strong. Spend money to fix things that are wrong. Don't spend money just because there's a store there.

Scott Pilgrim EX rewards players for making progress, which is why the best badge route isn't about buying the most. It's about getting the right things at the right time and letting one solid build carry the run.
