Sea of Thieves Guide | How to Level Up Reaper
Here's how you can easily level up Reaper in Sea of Thieves.
Game Guide by Ornstein on Aug 07, 2025
This guide details the optimal path for advancing your status with the Reaper's Bones, achieving Grade Five Emissary rank, maximizing both gold and reputation, and efficiently turning in treasure at the Reaper's Hideout.
Raising the Reaper's Emissary Flag

To begin representing the Reaper's Bones, you must first raise their Emissary flag. While any Outpost features the Emissary Table where you can raise flags for most companies, the Reaper's Emissary flag is only sold at the Reaper's Hideout.
Travel to the Hideout and purchase the flag from the Reaper inside the tent. Note that you must be at least Level 15 in the Reaper's Bones order to buy this flag.
Reaching Grade Five
Once you have the Reaper's Emissary flag raised, your goal is to attain Grade Five rank. Grade progress can be jump-started by purchasing and turning in crates from the Merchant Alliance.
For instance, a Cannonball crate will grant a small amount of Emissary reputation each time you deliver one. However, the fastest way to reach Grade Five is through targeted voyages with the Gold Hoarders company.
Rapid Emissary Reputation via Skeleton Captains
Begin a simple Gold Hoarders treasure map voyage that leads to a small island. Your objective is to spawn and defeat a Skeleton Captain on that island.
If no Captain appears, dig up the map's two chests and then choose "Dive" to relocate to a new island quickly. Repeat until you encounter a Skeleton Captain.

Upon defeating the Captain and completing its quest (whether Ashen or regular), you will receive a substantial boost toward Grade Five—often moving you from just over Grade One to well into Grade Four in a single encounter. Continue diving until Grade Five is reached.
Maximizing Profit as a Grade Five Emissary
As a Grade Five Reaper's Bones Emissary, you can sell any prize to the Reaper's Hideout for 2.5 times the gold value. The following are some of the most profitable things to do:
Legend of the Veil Emissary Voyages: Completing this voyage yields large quantities of Captain's skulls, merchant loot, and Athena's Fortune chests, often totaling between 90,000 and 115,000 gold per voyage.
Skeleton Fleets and Ghost Fleets: Engaging and defeating these fleets can net over 100,000 gold, plus high Emissary reputation.
Hunter's Call Commendations: Dive for Hunter's Call loot—either from skeleton fleets or the Burning Blade Armada—and sell it to the Reaper's Bones to clear season-specific commendations and gain significant rewards.

Ford of the Damned (Legendary Skull of Destiny): Beginning this voyage yields the highest-risk engagement; as a Reaper's Emissary at Ford of the Damned, you become a massive target, so only attempt if fully prepared.
Simple Skeleton Encampments and Orbs: Sail between encampments, collect the glowing orbs worth 50,000 gold each, and keep an eye on large bird flocks for shipwrecks containing King's Chests, King's Skulls, and barrels. This relaxed method still guarantees a steady Emissary reputation and decent gold.
Monitoring Skeleton Encampments and Shipwrecks
When patrolling the map as a Grade Five, stop at every Skeleton Encampment to dig up orbs. Orbs convert directly to 50,000 gold apiece at the Reaper's Hideout.
While sailing between encampments, scan the horizon for large groups of birds—these indicate shipwrecks with high-value treasures, including King's Chests and King's Skulls, which only spawn when you hold Grade Five status.
Efficient Treasure Turn-In at the Reaper's Hideout

To streamline selling, approach the south side of the Reaper's Hideout. Align your ship with the distinctive rock formation between the small islet and the main island.
Lower your sails fully—catching wind helps wedge your vessel into place—and lock both harpoon guns to hold position.
Always offload treasure onto the island before starting sales in case your ship drifts. This setup minimizes loading times and reduces the chance of losing cargo.
