This guide explains how to get a Pickaxe in Winter Burrow, how to reach Bufo, how to complete their request, and how to craft the Granite Pickaxe.

Finding Bufo

To get your first Pickaxe, you bring Bufo five Pebbles and two Twigs. You only meet Bufo after the Owl takes Aunty. This event happens after you visit Aunty a few times and complete the tasks she gives. You cook in the oven in your burrow and craft the item according to the recipe she teaches.

After enough visits, the Owl arrives and takes Aunty away. Once this event takes place, you walk past Aunty’s house and cross the bridge into the next area in Winter Burrow.

Reaching the Firepit

When you enter this area, you move to the right and then walk upward until you reach an Abandoned Backpack that contains Kindling. You take the Kindling and place it in the fire pit nearby to stay warm.

From the firepit, you move north-east and continue until you reach a path that splits between trees. You follow this path.

Finding Bufo’s Home

You arrive at Bufo’s home. Bufo works at a stone bench, and the cold does not affect you while you are in this spot. You speak to Bufo, and they ask for five Pebbles and two Twigs.

You can collect everything in the area you walked through before reaching the house. If the cold begins to affect you, you return to Bufo’s home or the firepit in Winter Burrow.

After you collect the items, you return to Bufo and hand them over. Bufo gives you a Sandstone Pickaxe, which can break rocks, including the ones blocking the path north of your burrow.

Getting a Granite Pickaxe

The Sandstone Pickaxe lets you gather Pebbles, but it cannot break Granite boulders. To get a Granite Pickaxe, you finish the quest An Axe for Bufo.

You receive this quest after you find Aunty when the Owl takes her and she returns to your burrow. This also requires finding Gnawtusk’s herb stashes.

When you complete the quest, Bufo gives you the recipe for the Granite Pickaxe. You need one Granite found outside Bufo’s home, one Wool Yarn knitted from Fur Tufts, one Pinewood found in Shadow Forest, and one Oak Wood found outside Bufo’s home.

When you have these items, you go to the workbench in your burrow and craft the Granite Pickaxe in Winter Burrow.
