2018 is halfway done and we still have so many great games to play, especially this fall. With so many characters in each of these adventures in some games, the female characters go above and beyond to leave incredibly memorable moments. Whether it's stealing the spotlight from the protagonist or taking the lead role. Some push everyone else to the background and steal the spotlight thanks to incredible writing and performances, here are the top 5 female characters of 2018.

Lara Croft - Shadow of the Tomb Raider

Since her conception, Lara Croft has been one of the most recognized female heroes of all time. With Shadow of the Tomb Raider, she maintains her extraordinary reputation has the treasure hunter who can survive anything. Since its development, Eidos Montreal has flooded the internet with videos showcasing the different situations Lara will have to survive. Using her array of talents and creativity for solving puzzles and killing enemies. The game may not be out yet but it's clear that Shadow of the Tomb Raider will showcase Lara's amazing talents in an array of death-defying acts.

Despite this Shadow of the Tomb Raider also shows the emotional damage all these acts have had on her. Lara has been beaten, tortured, and emotionally drained. Almost put into killing autopilot the hero treads on trying to stop Trinity. Even when beaten into oblivion she gets up, showing that Lara will always stand against Trinity.

Clementine - The Walking Dead: The Final Season

Clementine's fortitude she's harder than any rock. This girl has survived cannibals, butchers, and the living dead for years. Not to mention the emotional burdens she has undergone throughout the years; losing Lee, having her friends die in horrific ways, and so much more. Now as the primary caretaker of Alvin Junior Clementine has become a mother. Whether the upcoming adventure will lead to her end or not one thing is for certain, Clementine is one of the strongest female protagonists not only in 2018 but in video games.

Kara - Detroit: Become Human

Kara's story in Detroit: Become Human is one of the more heartbreaking tales in the game. Markus attempts to lead a revolution to gain equal rights for his people and Connor treads the line between deviant and android but Kara is in constant stress trying to be a protector and caretaker for Alice.

During the adventure the player can neglect her duties as a guardian, forcing Alice to lose any hope of having a family or try everything in their power just to keep the child alive from some of the worst situations imaginable. It's a test of mettle that goes beyond what Markus and Connor have to deal with. If there's any doubt in your mind that Androids in Detroit: Become Human are not alive just observe how much Kara is willing to go for Alice.

The Handler - Monster Hunter: World

Your custom character is the star of Monster Hunter: World but without The Handler's guidance and aid you wouldn't last too long. She's always there to cook your meals, track your statistics, and offer tips of what to do. Without her aid, it's likely you would've never made it to the island in the first place. She may remain the background but her duties go above and beyond. She may not be the most effective hunter but she's just as tough as any warrior in the game.

Freya - God of War 4

Freya's introduction in Kratos' latest adventure wasn't in the best circumstances. After nearly killing a friend of her's the goddess eventually warms up to Kratos and Atreus, mostly Atreus, but eventually that relationship falls apart.

Freya may be cursed, unable to access her warrior spirit, but she has been shown to be resourceful and cunning. Able to find solace in her actions and position by helping her people at the cost of her own happiness. After losing her son it's clear that Freya wants revenge and as Queen of the Valkyries we can be certain she'll do whatever it takes to have it. The Valkyrie's in the campaign were able formidable, can't imagine how powerful Freya is.

Freya is strong, humble, but most importantly a mother. She's not without her faults and tries her best to right her wrongs but it's clear she was willing to do anything to protect her son, even die at his hands. Strength and love that powerful cannot be measured and unfortunately, Kratos and Atreus will find out how powerful this fallen warrior is soon.
