Release Notes Overview

We start with highlights introducing new product support for the AMD Ryzen 5 7500X3D. One of the reasons I took longer to make this video is that we're creating several videos simultaneously, and we've already tested the Ryzen 5 7500X3D, so we're now retesting the 7600X and 7600X3D.

We also tested the 9900X3D. Basically, we're retesting all CPUs with new games and new benchmarks. You constantly tell me not to test at 1080p because that's unrealistic, and even though we know 1440p results are worthless, we're still testing at 1440p because you keep complaining. However, let's return to the video.

We also offer new game support for Call of Duty: Black Ops 7, Ano 117 Pax Romana, and Arc Raider. Regarding fixed issues, the list is quite small. Intermittent application crashes may occur while playing games with Easy Anti-Cheat enabled when using Radeon Overlay; this issue is now resolved. CPU metrics/tuning may not appear in the AMD Radeon Software Adrenaline Edition application after updating the graphics driver using the AMD Software Install Manager. These drivers should resolve the issue.

Known Issues

There are numerous problems listed in the known issues. When you load a save game in Cyberpunk 2077 with path tracing enabled, the application may fail or the driver may time out. AMD is currently working with the developer to resolve the issue. This issue has been ongoing for months, with no resolution in sight.

Intermittent application crash or driver timeout may be observed while playing Battlefield 6 on the Ryzen AI 9 HX 370. Intermittent application crashes or driver timeouts may be observed while playing Roblox Player Cars on Racing and Drifting when switching between media tasks on Radeon RX 7000 series products.

Texture flickering or corruption may appear while playing Battlefield 6 with AMD Record and Stream on some AMD graphics products. The Radeon AntiLag2 option may not be available while playing Counter Strike 2 DX11 with Radeon AntiLag2 enabled on some AMD graphics products, such as the Radeon RX 9070 XT. We do not have that issue, but some people do. If you want to use AntiLag, it is advised to use the Vulkan API. This bug should have been fixed a long time ago.

Intermittent system crashes may occur while using certain high-bandwidth HDMI 2.1 displays during display standby. If you are experiencing this issue, it is recommended to use a DisplayPort connection as a temporary workaround. We use DisplayPort on all my displays, and everything works great. So, if you are having issues, DisplayPort is likely the better option.

Additional Recording and Color Notes

In the last driver review video, the 25.10.2 branch was where Ardin2, Ardin3, and Ardin4 branched into separate lines. Newer cards started having issues with AMD Software recording. The colors had extremely high contrast, and the shadows were completely distorted. If you are using an RX 6000 series card, the issue is fixed, but if you are using an RX 7000 or RX 9000 series GPU, the issue persists. Desktop recording works fine, but recording gameplay causes the shadows to break.

If you roll back to 25.9.2 on RX 7000 or RX 9000, recording works correctly. This is a bug. Additionally, Adrenaline Software often introduces a green tint. We hadn’t noticed it before, but someone pointed it out, and it is indeed present.

OBS does not introduce this tint, but AMD recording is often smoother in terms of frame times, which is why we still use it. AMD, if you are watching, the recorded colors are not accurate representations of what we actually see on the monitor. This appears to be an issue introduced in the new drivers.

Performance Observations

Regarding FPS numbers and performance, these drivers exhibit some interesting behavior. Since these drivers are branched out and AMD has stated that we will still receive performance updates for newer games, improvements appear where expected.

The RX 6950 XT performs better with the new drivers in Black Ops 7, but its performance in Arc Raiders remains largely unchanged. Perhaps the optimizations were implemented in previous drivers, not specifically in these specific drivers.

In Call of Duty Black Ops 7, the RX 6950 XT and the RX 9070 XT receive performance boosts, but the RX 7700 XT does not. This matches what we said earlier: beyond specific game optimizations, newer architectures like Ardin2 and Ardin3 already had most optimizations applied.

Improvements usually target higher-end GPUs, which is why the RX 6950 XT still receives boosts, while the RX 7700 XT does not. Perhaps the next drivers will bring improvements for the RX7700XT, but for now, this is how things look.

Interestingly, the RX 7700 XT does experience performance improvements in Arc Raiders, while the RX 6950 XT and RX 9070 XT remain unchanged. In Black Ops 7, the RX 7700 XT receives nothing, but in Arc Raiders, it improves. It seems like optimization for the RX 7700 XT is out of sync compared to the others.

Ray Regeneration and FSR

We checked the ray regeneration update for Black Ops 7. The FX Denoiser file inside the game is version 0.9.0, indicating that the denoiser is not yet finalized.

Ray regeneration is still in a beta-like state, and AMD is likely sandbagging because they probably know they won’t be able to release the final version before the end of the year. I will test it, but I have a lot of work right now, so that will be the next video.

We also checked the FSR version included with the driver. It is still FSR 4.0.2.

Final Thoughts

These drivers introduce new bugs and fixed issues. Besides new performance improvements for Black Ops 7 and Arc Raiders, nothing particularly new is included. If you plan to play Call of Duty: Black Ops 7, you should install these drivers, as they are optimized for most graphics cards.

Suppose you are not playing Black Ops 7 and your drivers are working fine. In that case, there is no real need to update, since there are no new features and only limited performance enhancements.
