AMD Confirms Ryzen 9950X3D 2 and 9850X3D With Faster DDR5 Support

Before CES, it was confirmed that the 9950X3D2 and 9850X3D exist. Sources have looked at internal documents to confirm the product names. At CES, both chips will be introduced as new AMD gaming desktop CPUs.

While the name itself isn't meant to be a big announcement, confirmation clears up any doubts about earlier speculations.

Improvements to Zen5 X3D and Memory Support

At a late-December meeting for all employees, AMD showed off new Zen5 X3D SKUs that worked well with DDR59800 memory kits. AMD has stated that new CPUs will list a higher JEDEC standard than current Zen5 devices. However, the official memory support parameters are not yet set in stone. The current Zen5 CPUs officially support DDR55600. The upcoming X3D models are likely to offer faster speeds, ranging from DDR5 6400 to DDR5 7200.

It seems possible to run DDR5 9800 with overclocking. All chips can handle DDR5 6400 or higher without any problems. New CCD stepping and selectively binned memory controllers are what made this better. The silicon is new and not reused from older CCDs. It is a new step. AMD has also said that yields for high-quality memory controllers have increased across Zen5 and Zen4, making these bins easier to find.

No precise benchmark numbers were given, though performance has increased by high single-digit percentages. The amount of performance improvement will depend on the workload and memory configuration, and results will vary across systems.

At CES2026, AMD is likely to talk about a new OEM strategy. This plan includes a hard drive for Gorgon Point, which is in the same place as Hawk Point after Phoenix. There will be a Zen6 debut in 2026. The N2P process technology that will be used in server-class Zen6 Venice products is not delayed. Mobile Zen6 products use the same CCDs as server versions, thus they could be released at the same time.

Some Zen6 mobile designs place CPU cores directly on the IO die, meaning goods can come out without advanced 2nm CCDs. There may be desktop Zen 6 products later, and higher-end models may be reserved for a future update.

How the Supply of RAM and the Upgrade Cycle Affect Things

Memory prices are likely to remain high for the next three to six months. The current upgrade cycle from Windows 10 to Windows 11 has seen demand rise, especially among people replacing older PCs. Retailers say that computer upgrades are becoming more urgent, putting more pressure on the already limited supply of memory.
