Catching Marlin can feel confusing if you are not sure when or where they appear. These fish do not show up during most of the story, and even after they unlock, you may complete several dives without seeing one. This guide explains when Marlin start spawning, how you can catch them, and where you should search so you can plan your dive properly.

Unlocking Marlin

You can only encounter Marlin after the Marlin Party begins. This works the same way as other special events like the Jellyfish Party and Tuna Party. Once the event starts, you receive an email notifying you that Marlin have begun appearing in the Blue Hole. Before this event, Marlin do not spawn at all.

How to Catch Marlin

When you encounter a Marlin, you need to be careful because it behaves aggressively. If you swim too close, it will attack you. You cannot capture a Marlin using your harpoon, so you must rely on other methods. You can either defeat it first or use special tools such as the Enhanced Hush Dart to subdue it before capturing it.

Because Marlin are classified as large fish, you still receive a two-star rating even if you defeat them before collecting them. This means you do not need to worry about losing quality if you choose a safer approach.

Marlin Location

Marlin appear in the Blue Hole Shallows, allowing you to find them from the surface down to about 50 meters. They are not common, and during a single dive, you usually encounter no more than two. Some players believe Marlin spawn more often near groups of Tuna, but you can also find them completely separated from any other fish.

To improve your chances, you should dedicate an entire dive to exploring only the Shallows. By the time the Marlin Party begins, you usually have enough oxygen capacity to fully search this area without needing to resurface early.

Because marlin don't breed in the same places in the Shallows, you have to look around yourself. Even though they can show up as deep as 30 meters, they're usually above that. Most reports happen in the upper parts of the Blue Hole, so the best way to look for them is to explore the lower areas.
