RTX 2080 Ti used to be a $1,000 high-end GPU known for its amazing performance and 11GB of VRAM. Today, it sells for approximately $209 on the used market, putting it in direct competition with Nvidia's newer budget model, RTX 5050, which costs about $249.

GPU Specs Overview

RTX 2080 Ti came out in 2018 for $999. It had PCIe 3.0 x16, 11 GB GDDR6 VRAM, and a 250W TDP. It has many outputs, including three DisplayPort ports, one HDMI port, and a USB-C port that can also work as a DisplayPort. You can find this GPU on the used market for about $209.

RTX 5050, on the other hand, came out in 2025 for $249.99. It uses PCIe Gen5x8, has 8GB of GDDR6 VRAM, and has a TDP of only 130W, making it much more power-efficient. It has two HDMI connectors and two DisplayPort ports, and it just needs one 8-pin power connector. The 2080 Ti has better raw stats, but the 5050 is more efficient and has a more modern design.

Test Bench Setup

The test equipment used to compare the two GPUs is similar to what a typical buyer in the $200–$250 GPU range would use with these cards. It has a Ryzen 5 9600X processor, 32 GB DDR5 DDR5 memory, an ASRock B850 motherboard, and a 2TB Gen4 SSD.

Battlefield 6 Benchmark (High, 1080p)

RTX 2080 Ti got an average of 97 fps in Battlefield 6 with high settings and no upscaling. The 1% low was 68 fps. RTX 5050 was just behind it with an average of about 94 fps and 67 fps for 1% of the time.

Both GPUs worked well, but RTX 2080 Ti stayed ahead because it had better rasterization. 2080 Ti, on the other hand, used almost twice as much power as the 5050, which is a big difference for people who care about heat or energy use.

Arc Raiders Benchmark: 1080p High with DLSS DAA

Arc Raiders added DLSS DAA and ray tracing, which are features contemporary cards excel at. The RTX 5050 did a little better in this title, with an average of 93 fps and lows of 73 fps. The RTX 2080 Ti had an average frame rate of about 89 fps and a minimum of 70 fps.

Doom: The Dark Ages gave a different story. The RTX 2080 Ti did much better, with an average of 81fps and 70fps 1% lows. RTX 5050's average frame rate dropped to around 62 fps, with lows of 46 fps.

2080 Ti's bigger VRAM buffer and higher raster performance seem to help this game run better, which is a good indicator for the older GPU.

Fortnite Benchmark (Competitive Settings at 1080p)

With TAA and DX12, RTX 2080 Ti got roughly 248 fps in Fortnite at low settings. This showed off the pure raster power of the older flagship.

2080 Ti was able to push very high framerates even though Fortnite is quite CPU-bound. This result shows that 2080 Ti still works very well in fast-paced competitive games.

Overall Performance Summary

During testing, the GPUs alternated wins, depending on the game and its features. RTX 2080 Ti always did better in older rasterized games, games that used a lot of VRAM, and games that ran at higher resolutions like 1440p.

RTX 5050, on the other hand, was far better at ray-traced games and DLSS-optimized games while requiring much less power. The 2080 Ti was slightly stronger overall. Still, the 5050 is a great current option because it uses less power and is only available used.

Which GPU Should You Choose?

RTX 2080 Ti is the best choice for gaming at 1440p if you want the best performance for less than $250. It has 11GB of VRAM and higher memory bandwidth, which makes it better at higher resolutions.

RTX 5050 is the best choice if you mainly play at 1080p, like ray-traced games, or need a GPU that works with a power source that uses less power. It offers modern efficiency, new features, and the peace of mind that comes with buying new instead of used.
