Resident Evil Requiem left players with plenty to think about, especially regarding Oswell E. Spencer and his surprising role in the game's unfolding story. For years, Spencer has been remembered as one of the people responsible for some of the franchise's worst disasters. However, the latest game offers a different perspective on his past, revealing details that challenge what players have come to believe.
Requiem, however, offered another version of his story and raised questions about his motives and the ELPIS project's real goal. Capcom has confirmed that an expansion is in development, and fans are eager to learn more about the character and the mysteries surrounding him. The additional story content is expected to explore some of the unanswered questions left behind by the main campaign

The expansion has drawn attention because one of the game's writers said it will help players better understand Spencer.
But several reports and leaks hint that the original Spencer Mansion might be coming back. Rumors have also been swirling about familiar characters such as Leon Kennedy, Ada Wong, and Alyssa Ashcroft; it's hard to know what direction Capcom is going in. These possibilities have only fueled speculation, with players waiting for Capcom to reveal its plans.
Resident Evil Requiem was released on February 27, 2026, and Capcom confirmed its story expansion plans shortly after. On March 10, director Koshi Nakanishi released a video announcing that the development team was working on additional story content designed to explore the game's world in greater depth. He also mentioned other additions, including a photo mode and a new minigame. However, these features are separate from the main story expansion, and the Leon Must Die Forever challenge mode released in May is not the DLC fans have been waiting for.
Despite the announcement, Capcom has not revealed the expansion's official title, price, or release date. The company also hasn't shown any footage or explained which characters players will control. The most significant information so far came on October 7, when Haris Orkin, one of the writers involved with Requiem, discussed the expansion during an interview at an event. Speaking about the story, he said that the DLC would help players understand Spencer better.
Which is especially interesting considering Spencer's history.
He was one of the founders of the Umbrella Corporation and had a heavy hand in the experiments and events that defined the Resident Evil universe. Requiem, however, planted seeds of information that complicated the way players understood his motivations. This new perspective gives the developers an opportunity to explore the character beyond his established reputation as a villain.
The game showed his relationship with Grace Ashcroft, and clarified that ELPIS was not another bio-weapon. But it was an antiviral treatment that could neutralize biological weapons. It also raised a major question: why would someone responsible for so much destruction create something that could stop it?
According to reports from leaker Dusk Golem, the development team originally considered including a section featuring the Spencer Mansion in Requiem. However, the team reportedly removed the location during development, with later rumors suggesting Capcom might use it in the DLC instead.
The return to the mansion is exciting because of its significance to the original Resident Evil. Its towering staircases, narrow corridors, barred doors, and creepy atmosphere remain some of the franchise's most memorable features. But it is unclear how the location would fit into Requiem's story.

Capcom could send players back in time to witness events surrounding Spencer, or let Grace explore the mansion's ruins and discover documents left behind by its previous owner. These are just possibilities, but Orkin's comments about Spencer have made the location rumor especially compelling.
There are also reports that teams are working on the expansion.
Dusk Golem said M-Two and K2 are developing it. Both are also associated with the Resident Evil 4 Remake's Separate Ways DLC, which offered a whole new adventure with Ada Wong at the center, rather than just a few new missions. The DLC had its own levels and story, which gave a new perspective on the events of the main game.
Another big question is who the playable character is. Previously, rumors from November 2025 had Alyssa Ashcroft as the frontrunner. Alyssa is Grace's mother and a journalist featured in Resident Evil Outbreak. She has many connections to Umbrella and the events surrounding Raccoon City.
However, rumors changed in March when Dusk Golem suggested that Leon Kennedy might be the expansion's main character instead. Reports also claimed that Capcom had considered giving Leon larger sections of Raccoon City to explore during Requiem's development, including ideas involving vehicles. Some of that content was reportedly removed, leading to speculation that the studio might reuse it in the DLC.
Ada Wong has also entered the discussion. In March, Dusk Golem mentioned receiving indirect information suggesting that she could appear in the expansion, although no further details were provided. Her possible involvement has naturally revived speculation about Leon's relationship status, particularly because of the ring he wears in Requiem.
An August rumor added another possibility, suggesting Capcom might be preparing two separate story expansions.
According to the claim, one would feature Leon and Alyssa, while the other would bring together Ada and Chris Redfield. Chris's appearance in the discussion is particularly interesting after the Hound Wolf Squad's involvement near the end of Requiem. However, Capcom has only confirmed one story expansion, and there is no official evidence that two separate DLC packages or four playable characters are planned.

Players should also be careful with unofficial images and expansion titles circulating online. A rumored DLC called Extraction was supposedly targeting a May release, but Dusk Golem denied the claim. The content released in May was actually the Leon Must Die Forever mode. Another title, Last Days, has also appeared in online discussions, but no reliable evidence supports it.
As for the release window, Capcom has not announced a date. Dusk Golem claimed in July that the expansion was targeting late 2027, and the possibility resurfaced in October. There have also been rumors that Capcom wants to release smaller story expansions lasting a few hours between its larger games and remakes. This possible schedule has been connected to speculation surrounding a Code: Veronica Remake, although none of these plans have been confirmed.
Interestingly, the Spencer Mansion rumors might also connect to a possible remake of the original Resident Evil.
Dusk Golem claimed that some of the work being done on the mansion could be reused in a new version of the first game. This would allow Capcom to revisit the same location in two separate projects, although a Resident Evil 1 Remake has not been announced. For now, the strongest indication of the expansion's focus remains Orkin's statement about Spencer.
Whether Capcom explores Spencer's past, continues the story after Requiem's ending, or combines both directions remains unknown. A return to the mansion could provide the perfect setting for a focused horror experience involving Umbrella's experiments. At the same time, a new adventure with Leon could expand the parts of Raccoon City players never got to explore.
The most interesting possibility is that these ideas might connect through ELPIS and Spencer's hidden motivations. Until Capcom shares more information, however, players will have to treat the character, location, and release-date reports as rumors rather than confirmed features.
