Yesterday Halo developer Bungie and Call of Duty publisher Activision announced that Bungie had signed a deal for Activision to exclusively publish games made in a new series to be created by Bungie over the next 10 years. Bungie will retain ownership of the franchise which is in development by a core team lead by Bungie co-founder Jason Jones. Bungie released a statement on the matter which can be found here.

Microsoft immediately sent out an email commenting on the deal:

"Our partnership with Bungie as a first-party developer for Xbox 360 remains unchanged, and right now we’re deeply engaged with them on the development of 'Halo: Reach,' which is poised to be the biggest game of 2010."

Sony soon responded with their own statement:

"This is great news for all gamers. When Bungie's amazing talent and creative minds are unleashed and married with the incredible power of PlayStation 3, amazing things will happen. Ultimately, as a gamer, if you want the best content available from the industry's most renowned developers, today's announcement further signifies that PlayStation 3 will be the only place to get it. With last years amazing and award winning PS3 titles, to the roadmap and surprises we have for this year, the momentum for PS3 and PSN continues. I think I speak for everyone, when I say I can't wait to learn about this new IP and world that Bungie is creating."
