Civilization V - Gameplay Q&A Stream
News by Daav Daavpuke on Sep 13, 2010
2K Games now has a stream up of Civilization V gameplay, which will last for one more hour (if my calculations are correct).
Check it out now. This is a good way to get a large glimpse of what the actual game will look like with feedback from the makers. You can even ask any questions you might have about Civilization V in the social stream.
Here are my findings about the Stream:
- Random Events are gone. The were deemed to be detrimental to gameplay and gave a feeling that the AI was cheating. This was my question and I'm distraught this was done.
- The mechanism for Roads has been altered. Roads are no longer free, but need to be paid upkeep costs. In Neutral territory, it is the builder that paysd for the road.
- There is a largely updated resource screen. Due to the use of hexes, resources are now designed more like a Settlers Of Catan game.
- It is no longer possible to stack units together in 1 tile. This brings forth a few new tactics. For instance, cities now defend themselves and have their own defense and attack rating. Also, you can only garrison 1 unit within the city walls. If you wish to get another unit in, you'll be forced to move the current unit. Also, this means you can only purchase 1 unit in a city. If there is a unit currently stationed in the city, you won't be able to purchase another.
- Steamworks will be automated within any release, be it digital or retail.
- Great Persons are still available. They also still trigger Golden Ages. Instead of the amount of Persons necessary to start a Golden Age, Civilization V now lowers the duration of each consecutive Golden Age. This has been capped to a certain time span.
- Moving a unit adjecent to an enemy to another adjecent tile, will end your turn. This also implements the use of tactics more.
- there is a new feature called "Social Policies" that can advance your civilization.
- A map can go upto Huge size. This will hold 10 Civilizations and 24 City States. City States also being a new integration in the game, in the form of miniature Civilizations that can aid you.
