G4 Getting a Name Change (and Some)

News by Megan Bethke on  Sep 07, 2012

Comcast first merged G4 with TechTV in 2004, with outside brands looking at the network as a possible home base. Just this year some new faces were hired and appointed within G4; a new general manager and head of original programming. It looks like the network is going to continue making changes.

According to sources of Variety's, G4 is undergoing a rebranding that may include a name change and move G4 in a different direction. This new direction that G4 may take will have the network looking more like the magazine GQ and less geeky.

The rebranding aims to make G4 more distinguished from other "manly" networks.

Variety states,  "The guy-centric net is mulling a more sophisticated look while remaining true to its tech and vid game roots." Variety says that the sophisticated rebranding could mean that G4 will be more distinguished from the many male focused networks such as SpikeTv and Velocity.

No word yet on whether G4's popular shows, such as Attack of the Show! or X-Play, will stick around or get the boot. The rebranding is planned to take place in early 2013.
