Germany To Ban Violent Video Games

News by Craig Bryan on  Jun 08, 2009

A very well-respected German website by the name GamePolitics has reported that German ministers are pushing through laws to ban the production and distribution of violent video games. The decision still needs to go through parliament, so nothing is concrete as of yet, but all sixteen of Germany’s federal states agree with the decision.

The country has been clamping on violence in the media of late, especially where video games are concerned, and in the past few months have already banned Dead Rising and Manhunt. This will only be the beginning though, the ban will stretch across all video games that even show a hint of violence in any form, regardless of whether that’s the main theme of the game. It will also force many German gaming companies into shutting down or moving abroad.
