A 27-yeard-old Californian college student was released from jail on Monday evening after paying a $5,000 bond.

He was arrested on federal charges of modifying or ‘chipping’ video game consoles illegally, allowing them to play pirated games – a violation of the Digital Millennium Copyright Act. He was accused of modifying all 3 current generation consoles – PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and Nintendo Wii.

He isn’t high and dry yet though, if he is found guilty by a federal grand jury then he may face up to 10 years in prison. The hearing is scheduled for August 10th.
