Metal Gear Solid: Rising could be a series

When the announcement for Metal Gear Solid: Rising was leaked, everyone thought it would be just a spin-off of the main series (featuring a protagonist whose name is not Solid Snake). But according to producer Shigenobu Matsuyama, Rising is more than just a standalone side story.

As stated by Japanese news site, Andria Sang, Matsuyama talked about his plans for a Metal Gear Solid: Rising series. "MGS Rising is not a side story. We're aiming for two Metal Gear Solids, making a series out of another standard," the producer told Japanese media Enterbrain during their latest Midnight Live 360 web broadcast held on June 26.

One of the questions Matsuyama was asked is why Raiden was chosen as the central character for Rising. Matsuyama answered that Raiden’s blade was the perfect choice for a game in which players can pretty much slice up anything they desired. The producer also added that Rising will explain the events connecting Metal Gear Solid 2 to Metal Gear Solid 4 together.

Metal Gear Solid: Rising is set to launch for the Playstation 3, Xbox 360, and PC sometime in 2011. If this game is successful, we may also see a Metal Gear Solid Rising 2 in the near future.
