The Fallen is a two-phase encounter in Castlevania: Belmont's Curse that tests your dodge timing and patience. You do not get a completely fresh health bar when he switches things up.
Instead, once you knock him down to 50% health, a brief cutscene plays and he adds two dangerous whip abilities to his move pool. You also have at least three Health Vials available, so you have some room for error. Here is how to handle every attack and take him down quickly.
Phase #1
During the first half of the encounter, The Fallen sticks to two specific abilities. Your main strategy is simple: run in, hit him a few times, and back off before he retaliates.

Claw Combo
This is his most dangerous move. The Fallen jumps directly toward you and starts a three-hit swipe chain. The moment he leaps, dodge forward to slide behind his back.
He will direct the first two slashes in front of him, facing the direction he originally jumped. Use this window to land free attacks while his back is turned in Castlevania: Belmont's Curse.
As his second swipe wraps up, he will spin around to aim the third slash right at you. Dodge through him a second time to reposition behind him, finish your counterattack, and reset your spacing.
Unholy Cross
The Fallen tosses a spinning projectile outward. It flies forward a short distance, turns, and flies straight back like a boomerang. You can destroy this projectile by hitting it with your own melee strikes.
If you have clean spacing, swing your weapon to break the cross immediately. Once it shatters, dash right up to him and get some damage in. If your timing feels off, keep your distance, wait for it to return and vanish, then close the gap in Castlevania: Belmont's Curse.
Phase #2
When his health drops below half, a quick cutscene triggers. The Fallen pulls out a whip, which gives his kit massive range and creates two new threats to watch out for.
Whip Strike
The Fallen lashes out across nearly the entire arena with a bright yellow whip. Trying to run away from this usually fails because the hitbox stretches so far in Castlevania: Belmont's Curse.
If the lash clips you, you get bound in place and take guaranteed damage. The moment you see his wind-up, dodge forward underneath the whip to negate the damage completely.
Whip Swing
The Fallen attaches his whip to the ceiling and swings high above the ground. He dips low when he gets near the corners of the room. You can manipulate this move by standing near a corner to bait him into dropping.
Once he targets you and starts his descent, walk inward toward the center of the arena. He will slam down into empty space where you were standing.
As soon as he hits the floor, make a short hop toward him and land a heavy combo while he recovers in Castlevania: Belmont's Curse.

FAQ
Q. Can you parry The Fallen's Claw Combo?
A. Dodging through him is the safest method. Sliding behind him during his first two swipes completely removes his frontal threat and gives you the largest window to deal damage safely.
Q. What should you do when The Fallen throws the Unholy Cross?
A. Hit the cross with a melee strike to break it out of the air. If you destroy it early, you stop the boomerang return and leave him wide open for a few seconds.
Q. How do you avoid getting trapped by the Whip Strike in Phase 2?
A. Do not try to backpedal, because the attack covers almost the entire screen. Instead, dodge forward right as he cracks the whip so you roll straight under the hitbox.
