Defeating the Skeleton Monster in Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse can be annoying as it doesn’t have a visible health bar, and you can only see how much health you have drained when it switches phase. But once you recognize the attack pattern, you can take it down without losing much health.

Skeleton Monster Location

You will run into this mini-boss in the Street of the Tomb Masons area in Castlevania: Belmont's Curse.

Head left from the Mirror of Life. On your way, you will run into swarms of bats and zombies. Take your time clearing them out.

Upgrade your Cross by knocking out the Works of Mercy objective, since the enemy packs are grouped tightly together. Keep heading left past the enemies until you drop into a small arena where the Skeleton Monster waits.

The fight splits across two phases. In phase one, the boss relies on two primary swings in Castlevania: Belmont's Curse.

Castlevania: Belmont's Curse Slide backward Out of Reach

Phase #1: Mace Slam & Swing Attack

The boss rushes you and slams its bone mace down into the ground. When you see it start to run forward, slide directly past it.

When you slide, you’ll end up behind its back, so it is wide open for quick hits. Make sure to hit the boss as hard as you can during this time.

The boss will look around before swinging its bone mace around; this can serve as a visual cue so that you can avoid it by either sliding backward or by jumping.

This strike has decent range and covers ground fast. You can avoid damage in two ways: slide backward out of reach or jump directly over the mace.

Phase #2: Shockwaves and Rock Debris

Once you shave off roughly half of the mini-boss's hidden health pool, it roars to signal phase two. It keeps its old moves but adds a dangerous combo.

Dodging Roar & Double Slam

After roaring, the boss slams the ground to kick up flying rocks. These rocks move pretty slowly across the screen, so you can easily dodge them. Immediately after the rock toss, the boss grips its bone mace with two hands and crashes it down hard.

This causes a shockwave to radiate outwards on both sides of the floor. Watch the ground and jump over the incoming wave.

Cheesing Strategy

The best way to beat the Skeleton Monster is to bait out its animations, tricking it into standing still. Come forward and hit it, then back off immediately to bait either the standard slam or the circular swing. You must attack the Skeleton Monster during its recovery phase and repeat the pattern.

FAQ

Q. Once the Skeleton Monster is defeated, does it respawn?

A. It doesn't respawn. The mini-boss is replaced by a regular mob.

Q. How do I know when the Skeleton Monster is going to die?

A. There is no health bar that you can see, so keep an eye on its roar. The roar tells us it's about 50% health and going into phase two. After that, keep up the pressure while avoiding the ground shockwave until it falls.
