Exploring Notre Dame eventually leads you straight to Death, who sits shielded behind three life-draining barriers.

Normally, you just need to punch in three specific songs on the Great Organ to bring down those barriers and proceed with your run. But there is a secret fourth song hidden away in the area.

Playing this hidden tune lets you wrap up The Shadow Arcana questline and lands you War & Famine, which easily rank among the hardest-hitting Twinblades in the game. Here is how you track down the notes and grab the loot in Castlevania: Belmont's Curse.

Step #1: Decoding Clue

Before you try this, make sure you have explored enough of the map to hit the Ferryman’s Wharf checkpoint.

Start at the Ferryman’s Wharf and walk southeast until you enter the Stained Glass Gallery. Look up at the windows lining the walls. Every single window has an astrological sign sitting above the frame. These signs line up identically with the layout of the keys on the Great Organ.

Here is how you crack the order: look at the candles resting on the window sills. The window with one single candle gives you your first note.

The window showing two candles is your second note. Continue counting upward for three, four, and beyond until you map out the entire string of symbols in Castlevania: Belmont's Curse.

Write down this sequence on a piece of paper or type it into your phone notes so you do not have to run back and forth to double-check.

Step #2: Playing Song

Once you have your notes organized, leave the room. If you opened the vertical shortcut earlier, you can skip the long trek. Head directly into the room immediately to the right of the Stained Glass Gallery and drop straight down the shaft to land near the instrument.

Now you have to physically step on the keys to play the tune, but here is the problem: the hitboxes on the keys are unforgiving.

If you clip the rim of an adjacent key on your way down, you register the wrong note and blow the whole attempt.

Take your time jumping between the keys. Use your double jump and air dash to steady your falls, and make sure your feet touch right in the dead center of each tile in Castlevania: Belmont's Curse.

Once you put the whole tune together correctly, head into the room directly to your left. If you knocked out two of the three Works of Mercy tasks beforehand, finishing this fourth tune completes The Shadow Arcana and triggers an exclusive line of dialogue directly from Death.

Step #3: War & Famine Twinblades

Look right beneath the statue in this side room to spot an opening in the floor. Drop down into the path below. It is a straight, linear hallway with zero turns, so just run forward until you run into an old stone tomb.

Walk up and interact with the tomb to loot the War & Famine Twinblades in Castlevania: Belmont's Curse.

These blades deal top-tier base damage compared to any other weapon in the Twinblade category. They also use the standard rhythm-based combo string that Rose relies on.

Watch her face closely while swinging: tap your basic attack the exact moment you see the light flash in the eyes of Rose, and she chains straight into an aggressive follow-up.

Time that button press one more time on the next flash, and she spins out a constant flurry of slashes. What makes War & Famine unique happens on that third swing: it lays down a lingering buff zone on the floor that strengthens your combat output while you stand inside it.

FAQ

Q. Can I unlock War & Famine before beating Death?

A. Yes. You can solve the Stained Glass Gallery puzzle, hit the sequence on the Great Organ, and drop down to the tomb to grab the weapons before you bring down the three main barrier beams blocking Death.

Q. What happens if I miss a note on the Great Organ?

A. If you graze the side of a key and hit the wrong input, the song resets. You just need to hop off, step back onto the starting key, and play your notes in the right order again from step one.

Q. Is the fourth melody required to complete the game?

A. No. You only need the first three melodies to drop the barriers and fight Death. The fourth song is an optional secret for finishing The Shadow Arcana and claiming the legendary weapon drop.
