Finding The Artist, known as Brauner, in Castlevania: Belmont's Curse leads straight into one of the most unusual boss encounters in Dracula's Castle.

While he talks a big game and technically issues a direct challenge, winning this encounter is not about surviving a grueling combat trial. The entire fight is won before the duel ever starts by breaking his stone prison using specific traversal tools.

Here is how you complete the encounter with The Artist and claim your rewards in Castlevania: Belmont's Curse.

Castlevania: Belmont's Curse Defeating Artist Brauner

Prerequisite: Unlocking the Smash Ability

Standard attacks and spells cannot damage or initiate the battle with The Artist. You must unlock the Smash ability before attempting this encounter.

You obtain Smash as a reward for defeating Talos, the Builder in the Clock Tower. This movement ability allows you to perform a heavy ground slam from midair, which is the only way to break obstacles marked with golden fractures.

If you have not beaten Talos, the Builder yet, you will be unable to damage the prison or trigger the fight.

Reaching the Secret Atelier

Start from the Great Hall within the Main Hall of Dracula's Castle in Castlevania: Belmont's Curse.

Walk down the corridor lined with artwork until you spot a large portrait depicting Alucard standing next to a narrow, gold-framed painting.

Notice the sword in Alucard's portrait: it points directly to the left, indicating your path forward. Use your whip to leap directly into the magical canvas, which propels you across the gap to the left past the portrait.

Continue down the leftward corridor and climb up through the vertical shafts to the upper floor in Castlevania: Belmont's Curse.

Once you enter the multi-tier atelier, drop down to the lower level beneath the portrait and strike the large gear mechanism repeatedly with your weapon. Hitting the gear raises the gate blocking the inner chamber.

Breaking the Sculpture and Defeating Brauner

Enter the main hall of the atelier to find The Artist encased within a massive stone sculpture covered in glowing golden cracks. Basic slashes and sub-weapons bounce harmlessly off the surface.

Use the room's magical paintings and grappling anchors to launch yourself upward through the chamber until you reach the platforms suspended directly over the statue.

Align yourself directly above the cracked sculpture, leap out into open space, and trigger the Smash ability in Castlevania: Belmont's Curse.

The downward slam shatters the stone prison on impact, triggering the battle sequence. The Artist immediately steps forward and challenges you to combat.

However, before the fight even begins or a single hit lands, Brauner surrenders on the spot, handing you an instant victory without requiring any combat input.

Encounter Rewards

For completing the encounter, The Artist awards you two major prizes:

First, you receive The Artist Arcana, expanding your collection of magical Arcana in Castlevania: Belmont's Curse.

Second, you obtain the Masterpiece spell, an offensive ability that conjures a gargoyle to hunt down and attack nearby enemies.
