Modern Warfare 2 massacre sequence revealed

SPOILER WARNING: This article contains critical information from the game's main story.
A 3-minute video leaked from CNN (now removed due to copyright violations) and MapModNews shows a level in Modern Warfare 2 in which four Russian terrorists are killing innocent people in an airport. These terrorists were shown in previous trailers for the game, but the most shocking issue is that the player will get to play as one of these terrorists, and will participate in the mass killing. The leaked footage shows the player and the other terrorists just gunning down civilians left and right, moving from one escalator to the next. Evidence, such as two of the terrorists are the same ones from the “Infamy” trailer, and a fuzzy subtitle in one of the NPCs revealed the name ‘Makarov,’ which indicates the main antagonist of the game, Vladimir Makarov, is leading this massacre. A rumor has begun to take shape that one of the terrorists is actually an undercover special ops agent and is forced to participate. Whether or not this is valid, this rumor has not been confirmed as of late.
Infinity Ward has just announced at VG247 that the footage is legitimate, but (probably) out of respect for those conflicted about the disturbing scene has the option to skip this level. This statement is a response to the issue:
“Yes it is. The scene establishes the depth of evil and the cold bloodedness of a rogue Russian villain and his unit. By establishing that evil, it adds to the urgency of the player’s mission to stop them.”
They continued with:
“Modern Warfare 2 is a fantasy action game designed for intense, realistic game play that mirrors real life conflicts, much like epic, action movies. It is appropriately rated 18 for violent scenes, which means it is intended for those who are 18 and older.”
Looks like Infinity Ward has just stepped things up to the next level. This controversial scene might affect sales, but it won’t stop the majority crowd from cancelling their pre-orders or just by picking up a copy of the game. Just don’t be surprised when the media is all over this issue.
[UPDATE] It has been confirmed that players will not be playing as a terrorist, but an undercover special ops agent who is forced to participate in the mass killing. An Activision spokesperson has stated that the game "includes a plot involving a mission carried out by a Russian villain who wants to trigger a global war. In order to defeat him, the player infiltrates his inner circle. The scene is designed to evoke the atrocities of terrorism."
The spokesperson also added that players will reach a checkpoint at the start of the game, and will be warned about the disturbing scenes that will come to pass. The player has the option to skip them or continue on. Furthermore, the ESRB has not fully confirmed a detailed summary that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 has been given the rating 'M,' (other than blood, intense violence, etc) even though the rating itself has been "displayed on all packaging and all advertising" handled by Infinity Ward.
