Poor Sales of Gears of War: Judgement and God of War: Ascension
Do Prequels Sell Well?
News by Grayshadow on Apr 22, 2013
During March two blockbuster titles were released. These exclusive titles included Gears of War: Judgement on the Xbox 360 and God of War: Ascension on the Playstation 3. Did Gears of War: Judgement and God of War Ascension sell poorly? According to an investor note from Cowen & Company estimates Gears of War: Judgement will be around 425,000 units sold in the United States by the end of the month compared to Gears of War 3 selling over 2 million copies. God of War: Ascension will sell at 360,000 units compared to the 1.1 million copies sold of God of War 3.
Other titles have performed better during the month according to Cowen & Company. According to the company Square-Enix’s Tomb Raider sold 696,000 units in 33 days and Take Two’s BioShock: Infinite with 665,000 copies sold in 10 days. Despite Square-Enix’s former president, Yoichi Wada, resigning due to slow sales of major console game titles in North America and European markets” the company is predicted to do better than Sony and Microsoft’s console exclusives. However this brings up an interesting question, do prequels sell well? Should've Gears of War ended with the last title and would've God of War: Ascension done better if it turned out to be a sequel to God of War 3? Leave a comment.
