While Radical Entertainment’s Prototype 2 was shown for the first time at San Diego’s Comic-Con this July, fans went wanting a piece of the action, but were left disappointed. It was at New York’s Comic-Con they finally got their hands on the game; Activision providing two playable levels in its booth.

Prototype 2 follows a new infected protagonist named James Heller as he pursues Alex Mercer—the 2009 game’s lead—and attempts to contain and eradicate outbreaks of the Blacklight Virus.

"The first mission touches lightly on Heller's story, while the other is something we call a 'Rampage Challenge' — where it's all about the action and players can compete for the best score,” said Ken Rosman, Studio Head of Radical Entertainment. “Both missions will give fans an initial taste of what's in store when the final version of PROTOTYPE 2 comes out in April next year."

Activision looks to offer “unparalleled locomotion” and a “vast genetic arsenal of deadly, biological weapons and abilities” as players unleash carnage throughout New York Zero on their hunt for Mercer.

Prototype 2 will launch April 24, 2012 for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC.
