SOCOM 4 announced

SOCOM: Confrontation, released October 2008, was met with disappointment, most notably with its technical issues. Many SOCOM fans wondered if Zipper Interactive would take back the SOCOM franchise from Slant Six, the developer responsible for Confrontation. Fans are finally seeing hope for the franchise again.

Zipper Interactive was busy with MAG (Massive Action Game) at the time, and had to turn Confrontation over to Slant Six. Though Zipper is still dedicated to keeping MAG’s 256 players running smoothly, they are currently working on the newest SOCOM installment, as told by Sony in their Europe Blog this week.

Sony also divulged in SOCOM 4’s storyline. The game is set in the Southeast Asia region where a revolutionary army has taken control of a country that borders one of the world’s most vital shipping water passageways, which immediately jeopardizes the entire global economy. Players will fill in the shoes of a NATO operations commander who will take control of an elite five-man squad, and will embark on a mission to deal with these rebels. The thing is though, you only have six days to complete the mission, which Sony promises will add to the intensity of the missions in the game.

Like in all SOCOM games, players will be able to engage in competitive multiplayer in 32-player matches. Maps will also be jungle-based and feature war-torn, urban cities.
