A whole new Sonic

Sega has announced a new Sonic the Hedgehog franchise, Sonic Boom. Being developed as an entirely new franchise the Wii U version of the game will be developed by Big Red Button Entertainment. The Nintendo 3DS edition of Sonic Boom will be made by Sanzaru Games, the people behind Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time. While the 3DS version was absent in the presentation the Wii U edition showcased Sonic, Knuckles, Amy, and Tails sporting their new look. Each character will be playable and has specific abilities, Kunckles can climb on marked surfaces, Amy hits things with her hammer, Tails uses gadgets, and Sonic of course runs fast.

The levels shown allow for both open combat and running at top speeds. Characters also exchange banter, and the main protagonist, Dr. Eggman, maintains his narcissistic attitude. Those hoping for Sonic Boomb to be a multiplatform will be upset to know that this game is part of Nintendo and Sega's exclusive contact and will not coming Xbox One and PS4.
Sonic Boom will also be developed into a CG animated series that will debut later this year to tie-in the Wii U and 3DS games.
