Sony Joins The Motion Control Club

Nintendo has it. Microsoft is getting it. Now, scheduled for 2010, Sony plans to release their own set of motion controls. Announced at today's Sony E3 Press Conference was a set of motion controls for the PlayStation 3. The prototype which was shown today was what resembled a Wii-mote. It was a skinny, black rectangular design. The thing that sets it apart most from the Wii-mote is the round ball at the end. The color changing ball is added to track the motion of the controller.

You may be familiar with the EyeToy. It is a PlayStation Camera which allows users to be put "in the game". A new, upgraded EyeToy will work coefficiently with the motion controls. You will be able to use a motion controller, giving you more ways to play in a game. For example, in the demo we saw at Sony's E3, the player took up a sword in his right hand and a shield in the left, all in the game. In reality the player had a controller in his left hand and right hand. His Left controlled the in-game shield, while the right controlled the sword. Also shown was exaples of how you would play first-person shooters, real-time strategy, archery, tennis, and even art games. On some of these games you would see the actual person on screen holding the item in their hand, when in reality, they only had the controller in-hand.

The controller has no set release date as of now, however it is expected to be out in 2010. A name for this product is also yet to be revealed. We will keep you posted on all the upcoming news of this newest invention from Sony.
