Many RTS fans have a good reason to by happy, as Blizzard Entertainment has recently announced that Starcraft II: Wings of Liberty will launch July 27 worldwide. Wings of Liberty will be available both for the PC and Mac, and will retail for $59.99 in North America. A Collector’s Edition for the game is also available for purchase, which will include an art book, a soundtrack CD, a USB flash drive that contains the original Starcraft and its expansion, Brood War, a comic book (Starcraft prequel), an in-game special Thor unit, and much more. It will all be available for $100.
Players can preorder Wings of Liberty at Gamestop today, which will enable them to join the continuing run of the Starcraft II multiplayer beta.
As the first of the Starcraft II epic trilogy, Wings of Liberty will focus heavily on the Terran campaign, with Jim Raynor as one of its central characters. As for the multiplayer, players will take on other people as mighty Protoss demigods, the merciless Zerg or the warmongering Terrans in an interstellar war for universal supremacy.
Many business analysts are already predicting that Starcraft II: Wings of Liberty will sell over 6 million copies. With its predecessor and its expansion (Brood War) becoming a huge success more than a decade ago – especially serving as Korea’s national pastime – it’s pretty much obvious how the game will sell worldwide.
