If you've been on the internet for quite some time, you would have inevitably heard about the missing Titan homemade Submarine. This has surprisingly caused a sharp uptick in sales of the indie horror game, Iron Lung, which was made by the solo indie developer David Szymanski.
For those of you who don't know the OceanGate submersible, which was carrying about five passengers, including the British billionaire Hamish Harding as one of its passengers. The submarine lost contact with the control center on 18 June 2023, only a few hours after its dive. The submarine, which was roughly 22 feet, was meant to explore the wreckage of the Titanic off the coast of Newfoundland. Despite a four-day search, there are still no signs of the submersible, and it is believed to only have a few hours of oxygen left.

Now you're probably wondering - what that has to do with Iron Lung? This indie horror game, which was released back in March 2022, follows a very similar scenario, as players have to explore a strange blood ocean while still being trapped in a rusty and claustrophobic vessel known as the Iron Lung. The game was developed by the solo developer David Szymanski and rose to fame thanks to the creepy and unnerving atmosphere that is present in the game.
Strangely since the disappearance of the submersible, the game has nearly tripled its sales. David even took to Twitter to share a screenshot of the surprise uptick in the game's sales. According to David, the sales started to uptick shortly after the announcement that the submarine was missing. “This feels so wrong,” wrote David along with the graph. If you go on to Steam now, you will find many reviews claiming that they had played the game using the Logitech F710 gamepad, which is the same gamepad that was used to steer the submarine.
However, it would seem that Iron Lung isn't the only ocean themed indie horror that is getting a sharp uptick in interest. Monad, one of the developers of the indie horror game Full Fathom also took to social media after the game saw a sudden uptick in wishlists and sales. They would then go on to tweet "Being associated with the Titanic submarine disaster is quite off-putting,”
Both games share a similar premise and see players trapped inside a small and claustrophobic vessel, exploring an unknown ocean and encountering all the strange things that lurk within them. David Szymanski said that they had created Iron Lung to be the "most nightmarish thing I could think of, and knowing real people are in that situation right now is pretty horrific." Despite the humor of the situation, things still seem to be dire for the submarine.
