Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy: The Telltale Series Season 1 starts off with a bang before jumping up and down through a series of hurdles that range from fantastic to mediocre. The writing and characters remain a constant high as decisions peppered throughout the adventure shift the story into various different outcomes based on your choices. While the puzzles are simple and the most of episode 4 feels like padding the season, as a whole, provides fantastic set pieces and heavy judgments to make. Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy: The Telltale Series Season 1 is another fantastic adventure for fans of Guardians of the Galaxy and those who love great stories.

Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy starts off with the Guardians attempting to stop Thanos and succeed. After a successful mission that Guardians are faced with an internal crisis, what to do next? Their entire family begins to crumble as everyone loses purpose in being a Guardian any longer and these bonds are tested further with the introduction of Hala and the Enternity Forge.

Hala the Accuser is a dangerous Kree warrior who is seeking to start a massive war. She's strong, ruthless, and more importantly, dedicated. She believes that her entire race is superior to everyone else and the only way to display this perfection is through the destruction of anything inferior.

While Hala serves as the primary antagonist it's the internal struggles of the Guardians that remain the highlight of the entire season. Each Guardian is faced with their own demons such as Peter dealing with the death of his Mother or Gamora attempting to find a way to redeem herself. Each one has enough screen time to provide context into their problems with some only given if the player chooses the specific choices.

A big part of Guardians of the Galaxy is choices. Throughout each episode, Peter will be given up to 4 choices to make that shift the story and how character's act based on them. Decisions will sometimes carry to other episodes with more profound decisions having lasting impacts. Unlike other Telltale games Guardians of the Galaxy takes a more detailed look at each character. Instead of just giving the player a list of what decisions the community made a more detail profile is given such as if 'Trusted Ally" or "Encouraged Growth".

When you're not making choices and talking to characters you'll either be in combat or solving puzzles. Puzzles are mostly simple with easy solutions, they are there to break up the action but serve more as tedious padding sequences. Combat is a lot more intense as players can control other Guardians, however, these are limited to button prompts. While easy enough they're excellently choreographed.

While traveling the HUB world Peter is equipped with Jet Boots and the ability to speak to other Guardians privately. This is a first for a Telltale game but works well to complement the universe of the Guardians of the Galaxy. These situations help provide more context into how the characters are feeling what they think about what's happening in each situation.

Telltale's Guardians of the Galaxy is another excellent addition to Telltale's growing library of games. The fantastic story and decisions help mold the story into a personal dialogue of the player's choosing, encouraging multiple playthroughs with unique outcomes. While the puzzles are boring and episode 5 does have some animation issues the entirely of season 1 shows the highs and lows of attempting to find purpose after losing it, the struggles of a family of strangers, and how one deals with failure. If you love Marvel or great story-telling than go buy Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy: The Telltale Series Season 1.
