To truly excel in Crimson Desert's combat, getting the Lightning Surge elemental skill should be your first order of business.

This skill infuses your attacks with electrical damage, and it's also key to overcoming specific world puzzles. To get it, you'll need to traverse the Abyss and conquer a series of Ancient Ruins challenges.

Spire of the Stars

First, though, you'll need to complete the main story up through the end of Chapter 4. The mission titled Spire of the Stars is where it begins; you'll scale a colossal tower and enter an Abyss Gate, which transports you to the Sanctorum of Insight.

On your first visit, an event will stop you from moving forward. Just finish the rest of Chapter 4 and then fast-travel back. Head past the spot where you find the Abyss Artifact, cross the bridge, and keep going until you reach the Secret Garden in Crimson Desert.

Secret Garden Puzzle

At the Secret Garden, you will find a puzzle using light beams and mirrors. Use a Force-Palm jump to reach the platform in front of you.

Use Axiom Force to grab the laser device and point it at the ceiling panels until the beam hits the left hole on the wall. Next, you need to power up the second laser by moving a Square Panel Battery into its socket.

The Force Current skill proves invaluable in this situation. To gain access, you'll need to level up both Force Palm and Axiom Force to level 2 within your skill tree. With Force Current, you can send energy through your grapple line to power the battery from far away.

Without it, you have to glide over and hit the battery manually. Once the second laser is on, point it at the mirrors so the light hits the right hole. Ride the air current up, fix the broken wire, and hit the final button with a Force-Palm to restore the area and grab your Abyss Artifact.

Navigating Vault of Vengeance

Travel south to find the Vault of Vengeance. Use Axiom Force to slide two Activation Cubes into the slots to drop the energy barrier in Crimson Desert.

Shoot the targets near the door and use Nature’s Grasp to get inside. This room requires the Focused Shot skill. To unlock this, make sure you have level 2 in both Marksmanship and Focus.

Hold the left trigger to aim your bow, then click both thumbsticks to enter focus mode. Use the Right Bumper to mark the four yellow targets above you and let go to fire. After the lasers turn off, take the sword from the center of the room.

Go through the laser path and plug in another Square Panel Battery. Use the teleporter to reach the surface, plug in a Rectangle Battery, and use Force-Palm on the final device. Before you leave, look for a gold chest hidden behind vines—you can burn them away using Blinding Flash.

Unlocking Lightning Surge

The Courtyard of Precision is your last stop. This island is all about speed and accuracy. You need to use Focused Shot to hit only the yellow bullseye targets. Ignore the blue ones. After hitting the first few groups around the pit, a large fan will start blowing air.

Jump into the wind and use Focused Shot to hit the aerial targets while you are flying. It is easier to aim while you are moving upward. Once you hit the final device with Force-Palm, you will finally unlock the Lightning Surge skill in Crimson Desert.

Imbue Weapons with Lightning

To get the most out of your new power, spend an Abyss Artifact on the Imbue Element skill. Hold right on the D-Pad and use the stick to select the Lightning element. You can cast a basic Lightning Surge field by pressing the Right Trigger and B Button together.

To add electricity to your sword, start a Turning Slash by holding the Right Trigger and Right Bumper. While charging, hold the Left Trigger to add lightning to the blade, then let go to strike.

If you find Abyss Gear like the Orbs of Lightning, your imbued attacks will summon small balls of energy that automatically hit nearby enemies with lightning bolts. It's a solid strategy for taking on groups of bandits or tough bosses.
