The Putrescent Cleaver offers an excellent combination of raw power and tactical flexibility.

This Greataxe provides impressive burst potential through its unique Ash of War while maintaining solid fundamentals for regular combat encounters in Elden Ring.

Weapon Overview

The Putrescent Cleaver is a weapon that combines power and magic, which is rewarding if you are an aggressive player.

This Greataxe works best when you know how to time your attacks and how to use its combos.

The weapon's design enables you to consistently apply pressure to your enemies while maintaining a strong defense with enhanced Hyper Armor in Elden Ring.

Spinning Guillotine Ash of War Strategy

When you start the Spinning Guillotine, there will be a slow animation that makes you vulnerable at first.

The Hyper Armor, on the other hand, kicks in immediately, letting you take enemy hits and keep attacking.

This trading possibility is your most significant edge because you usually win these trades in Elden Ring.

You have two different options for what to do after you get your first Ash of War. To keep the pressure on, you can press the Ash of War button again to start another Spinning Guillotine attack.

You can also do a strong attack follow-up, which is usually more reliable for guaranteed damage.

The heavy attack follow-up after your Ash of War connects creates a catch mechanism that forms a proper combo.

These three hits together - initial Ash of War, catch, and heavy attack - cannot be escaped once the sequence begins in Elden Ring.

This combination generates substantial frostbite buildup, making it your primary damage dealer.

Light attack follow-ups don't create true combos, but they serve as practical chip damage tools.

You can use these to maintain pressure when your opponent expects the heavy attack sequence in Elden Ring.

Combat Tactics and Mind Games

Your success with this weapon depends heavily on mixing up your follow-up choices. When opponents become familiar with your Ash of War in a heavy attack pattern, they'll start reacting by rolling to escape the combo.

This gives you a chance to use the natural Ash of War follow-up instead, which is faster and typically catches opponents who are rolling.

This method adds a mindgame tactic to Elden Ring, letting you observe your opponent's movements and then act accordingly.

Standard Moveset Applications

Beyond the Ash of War, the Putrescent Cleaver's fundamental moveset is also great.

Light attacks execute quickly and provide reliable Hyper Armor, allowing you to maintain offensive pressure in close quarters.

Heavy attacks offer excellent roll catch potential, and you can stun opponents effectively with well-timed light attacks in Elden Ring.

Stat Distribution

Put most of your attribute points into Strength and Arcane. If you want to do the most physical damage possible, invest a few more points into Strength, especially when applying damage enhancements like Exalted Flesh.

Because the weapon naturally builds up frostbite damage, you can induce frostbite status effects during your multi-hit combos, which adds even more damage.

Talisman Recommendations

Equip the Shard of Alexander to boost your Ash of War damage, since this is your primary source of burst damage.

The Rotten Winged Sword Insignia works well with your sequential attack patterns, making your combo sequences do more damage in Elden Ring.
