Salt is one of the most sought-after resources, essential both for cooking advanced meals and for crafting items such as Dried Fur.
Whether you’re just beginning or aiming to streamline your expeditions, this guide will walk you through every step—from initiating the quest to returning home safely with your haul—using concise, clear instructions and the exact in-game terminology you’ll recognize.

Why You Need Salt
Salt serves multiple critical functions in Enshrouded. Its primary purpose is to improve cooking recipes so that more complicated and healthy dishes can be made. Aside from cooking, salt is an essential part of making things like Dried Fur, which is needed for defense and many upgrades.
Because it can be used for many things, salt is often in short supply. Learning how to gather it efficiently can save you many trips into the dangerous Shroud.

How to Find the Salt Mine
To begin, speak with the Hunter, the NPC who assigns the salt-gathering quest. Once she appears on your map, accept the mission and look for the Salt Mine marker—a distinctive question-mark icon.
Before setting out, fast-travel to the Ancient Spire; its elevated position makes it easier to glide down into the Shroud. Keep in mind that at early levels, the Shroud’s dangers are magnified by lower-tier armor and weapons, so prepare accordingly.

Where to Get Salt
Upon entering the Salt Mine area, your priority is to stay outside the Shroud’s deadly mist for as long as possible. The mine entrance is located just beyond a prominent wooden structure.
Once inside, locate the network of tunnels that branch off to the left—these are typically less populated by hostile creatures, including the roaming Explody Boy. Equip a Scrappy Pickaxe at minimum (ideally better) to maximize ore yield and tool durability.
Follow the tunnel to where clusters of Salt Crystals line the cavern walls, then mine until you’ve collected your desired amount—but constantly monitor your timer to avoid being caught as the Shroud closes in.

How to Escape the Salt Mine
After gathering salt, two primary exit routes are available. The first is a small, unshrouded path leading back toward the entrance; follow the faint trail until you reach a safe zone, then fast-travel to your base.
The second option is to climb one of the inner mine ledges and, from higher ground, glide or sprint to an overland fast-travel point.
If you run into dangerous animals or lose sight of the way out, go back through the caves until you reach the open air. Always keep an eye on your energy, and when it gets dark, use any nearby torchlight to see better.
