Grounded 2 Guide | Best Starter Build
Here’s a Starter Build to get you started in Grounded 2
Game Guide by Ragib Rawnak on Aug 04, 2025
Poison builds have maintained their significance in Grounded 2, and with the correct combination of components, you can extend their capabilities far beyond simple damage-over-time effects.
This setup delivers what feels like an overpowered experience when executed properly. You'll achieve silent eliminations, maintain consistent pressure on enemies, and face opponents who barely have opportunities to retaliate.
This venomous assassin configuration focuses on stacking poison damage, parrying incoming attacks, and eliminating enemies with brutal effectiveness.
This guide covers the complete gear loadout and optimal mutations to utilize. It presents two build variants: one concentrated purely on ambush damage and another better suited for direct combat and boss encounters in Grounded 2.

Core Weapon and Equipment Foundation
You'll need to build around the Wolf Spider Set as your primary foundation. If you haven't reached the point where you can defeat the Wolf Spider, you should be able to handle this creature by tier 2 with this build configuration in Grounded 2.
Since it's an ambush-style setup, you won't always ambush every enemy, so the setup allows two different armor sets.
Boss fights require a different strategy because ambush tactics are not permitted, even though you will ambush some creatures.
Wolf Bane's Fang will be your primary weapon. The raw damage output it offers is the primary justification for this decision.
Although other weapons have sound effects, this one is the best option because it has much higher base damage numbers. It also produces venom, which works in perfect harmony with the two setups you'll be using.
To make Wolf Bane's Fang, you must kill a wolf spider and collect two fangs, four chunks, four pieces of spider venom, and two silk ropes.
You can locate these creatures by using the map toggle feature to track specific items and enemies. There are typically two Wolf Spiders in the central area, one additional spider in another location, and usually one near residential areas in Grounded 2.
The weapon's venom attack builds up venom on hitting targets and deals damage over time. The venom itself triggers other effects that benefit this set, which proves essential for the build's effectiveness.
While the venom damage appears negligible, the actual benefits of poisoning enemies provide significant advantages.

Ambush Assassin Gear Configuration
When you're playing the ambush style, approaching enemies from behind and attempting to eliminate them in a single strike, you'll continue using the Rotten Larva Set. As a tier 2 set, this proves ideal due to its specific effects.
This set provides the Rogue benefit, which grants a higher critical hit chance on your final strike. This synergizes effectively with the Astonishing Asset trinket, which you can obtain by collecting any acid.
This trinket enhances final damage, and when you execute your third hit, it deals increased damage. The Rogue benefits from critical hit synergies, combined with the ability to deal higher critical damage on the third hit, creating a high probability of delivering massive critical strikes.
When you observe combat scenarios where enemies get stunned and you land the third hit, they receive devastating damage due to the critical hit bonus plus the increased damage combination.
This set also provides increased damage to enemies affected by venom. The moment you strike them, you'll apply venom, and if they survive the initial hit, subsequent attacks will eliminate them quickly due to the damage multipliers.
The key reason for using this set over alternatives lies in its specific passive ability: creatures you ambush with melee attacks become stunned in Grounded 2.
This effect applies to every creature encountered, except bosses, who are already aware of your presence. This ensures you'll actively stun targets during ambush attempts.
You'll frequently approach enemies like Wolf Spiders, strike them from behind, instantly remove 70% or more of their health points while stunning them, then deliver multiple hits while they remain stunned.
You should achieve approximately six hits before they recover from the stun, during which you'll land multiple critical strikes, overwhelming them with damage before they can respond effectively.
Nearly 30% of attacks will critically strike, which is one of the statistical advantages. Additionally, you'll keep your critical hit multiplier at 200%. Statistics on your stamina and health are less vital because you will be fighting continuously.

Set up for Combat Assassin
You will use the Wolf Spider Set as your primary combat configuration. Direct combat scenarios are the main focus of this set. You will switch to this equipment loadout when you are facing bosses in Grounded 2.
The set's primary benefit triggers when you perform dashing strikes, inflicting targets with venom buildup through Deadly Venom. Melee hits potentially increase venom damage for short durations.
Combined with the Astonishing Asset trinket, you'll build substantial venom accumulation. The weapon itself also contributes significant venom buildup, creating an effective combat-focused configuration.
When facing enemies weak to spicy damage, you'll equip the Spectacular Spicy Shard. This drop can be obtained relatively easily and adds flat fire damage to all melee attacks.
When fighting Wolf Spiders or similar targets, you'll swap these components because this proves fundamentally superior.
These creatures resist venom damage, but if you encounter enemies with weakness matchups to spicy damage, you'll want to make the appropriate equipment changes.
You can find Spicy Shards in abundance on the picnic table area, which contains approximately five or six shards that may not display on the map. This location provides an excellent living area due to the concentration of valuable resources nearby.
This build should eliminate nearly everything reliably. When facing enemies like Ladybugs that are weaker to blunt damage, you'll deal more damage with blunt weapons, but you can still eliminate them with reasonable effort.
You simply won't achieve the one-shot eliminations possible with most other creatures.
Combat Assassin Mutations
There are two mutation setups: Setup A for combat and Setup B for ambush situations. For the combat configuration, you'll select Assassin, which provides dual-wield strikes with critical precision.
Daggers and Sickles deal bonus damage with critical hits, functioning as critical hit multipliers. You'll combine Assassin with Dagger Mastery, where kills increase critical hit chance for short durations in Grounded 2.
The more enemies you eliminate, the higher your critical hit chance becomes. When fighting creatures with multiple adds, you'll notice increased damage output due to higher essential hit rates.
Parry Master represents a mandatory selection for most builds. Perfect blocks restore stamina, keeping you engaged in combat for extended periods. This serves as your primary defensive mechanism since you'll be parrying frequently.
Frenzy becomes available after defeating the Mysterious Stranger and completing the base story. You'll deal increased damage with melee weapons and regenerate health while enraged, though perfect block timing becomes reduced.
This provides substantial additional damage when fighting enemies and proves perfect for boss encounters since you can't ambush them.
If you don't have access to Frenzy, you can select resistances matching the enemies you'll face, which will keep you alive. Natural Explorer also works well since movement speed remains valuable for positioning.
Cardio Fan enhances stamina management for survival mutations. You'll need to punch and parry consistently because you won't want to stop fighting. With this mutation, stamina sustain becomes essential, allowing you to fight for more extended periods.
Mutations of Ambush Assassins
Assassin, Parry Master, and Ambush mutations are used in the ambush version, which adheres to similar guidelines.
Ambush offers significant damage increases by dramatically raising critical hit multipliers. The damage improvement between tiers two and three is roughly 30%.
Ambush essentially guarantees critical hits when enemies remain unaware of your presence. Natural Explorer proves valuable because increased movement speed benefits stalking opponents and positioning for critical strikes.
Opportunities sometimes require faster movement to reach targets, making Natural Explorer particularly important for this playstyle in Grounded 2.
